Dealing with the four metropolitan areas only, it is found that the inclusion of the suburban portions lowers the death-rate at Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

Including the suburban portions, the rate at Auckland is the highest and at Wellington the lowest.
Compared with April, 1917, 1918, and 1919, the results are—

The total births registered for the four metropolitan areas amounted to 721, as against 832 in March—a decrease of 111. The deaths in April were 331—a decrease of 10 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 188, females 143. Sixty of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 18·13 per cent. of the whole number. Thirty-eight of these were under one year of age.

The following table shows the deaths in various age-groups occurring in the four metropolitan and total of nine suburban areas during the month of April, 1920 :—

The deaths of 145 persons of 65 years and upwards were registered for the four metropolitan and nine suburban areas during the month of April, 1920, as against 161 in the previous month. The following table shows the classification :—
