Arrivals and Departures in 1919.

TABLES showing the numbers of arrivals in and departures from New Zealand during the year 1919, with totals for the previous nine years by way of comparison, are published for general information.
The total number of persons who arrived in the Dominion during 1919 was 20,931, and the departures during the year numbered 19,877, the excess of arrivals over departures for the year being 1,054.
According to returns furnished by the Immigration officers, 4,668 persons arrived from the United Kingdom, and 3,559 persons departed therefor during the year. From the Commonwealth of Australia the arrivals are returned as numbering 11,568 persons, and the departures thereto as 12,722 persons. Arrivals and departures from and to other countries were 4,695 and 4,528 persons respectively.
Of the 20,931 persons who came to New Zealand last year, 2,768, or 13·22 per cent. of the total, were children—i.e., under twelve years of age; and of the 19,877 departures the children numbered 2,351, or 11·82 per cent.
The arrivals and departures shown do not include members of the Expeditionary Forces.
