Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops in the Borough of Invercargill, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when there shall be no fixed closing-hour; (3) should the occupier of any shop bound by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any day therein mentioned other than Wednesday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour for any such shop on Wednesday in that week shall be 6 p.m., and should such day fall on Saturday the closing-hour on Friday for such shop in that week shall be 9 p.m.; (4) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m., and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m. :
And whereas the Invercargill Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill :
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of May, 1920, all the grocers’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill shall be closed as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) on the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day there shall be no fixed closing-hour; (3) should the occupier of any shop bound by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any day therein mentioned other than Wednesday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour for any such shop on Wednesday in that week shall be 6 p.m., and should such day fall on Saturday the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop in that week shall be 9 p.m.; (4) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m. and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m.
The notices fixing the closing-hours of grocers’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 7th day of December, 1905, and the 6th day of October, 1910, respectively, are hereby cancelled as from the date of coming into operation of this notice.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Borough of Roxburgh, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the special days mentioned therein as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Saturday in that week for any such shop shall be 6 p.m., provided that should such special day fall on Friday the closing-hour on Saturday in that week for any such shop shall be 9 p.m.; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 18 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any other day than Saturday as the statutory closing-day, the closing-hour for any such shop on Saturday shall be 6 p.m., provided that should any such occupier so observe Friday as the statutory closing-day the closing-hour on Saturday for any such shop shall be 9 p.m. :
And whereas the Roxburgh Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Borough of Roxburgh :
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 10th day of May, 1920, all the shops in the Borough of Roxburgh shall be closed accordingly.
The notices published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 11th December, 1913, 4th December, 1913, 13th November, 1913, and the 9th October, 1913, fixing the closing-hours of hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops, confectioners’ shops, chemists’, booksellers’, and stationers’ shops, and all shops respectively in the Borough of Roxburgh are hereby cancelled as from the date of coming into operation of this notice.
