MENTAL HOSPITALS DEPARTMENT.

NOTES.—Where the services of attendants who have not passed the Junior Examination at the end of their first year, and do not pass this examination until after eighteen months’ service, are retained, the first increment of salary will date from the passing of the examination, and subsequent increments from the anniversary thereof.

Owing to fluctuations in rates of wages it has been found to be impossible to set out the wages payable to tradesmen. The figures shown are, except in special cases, those of the year 1919–20, plus any increases provided for in that year’s scale. During the current year any necessary adjustments will be made by way of bonus or allowance to supplement the 1919–20 rates.

REFERENCES: a, Board and lodging; b, meals when on duty; c, residence only; d, residence, fuel, and light; e, privileged to purchase from institution store as part payment in commuting former system of free maintenance; f, to be considered for further regrading after one year at present salary; g, receiving extra salary as married (or widowed with dependent children); h, subject to passing Junior Examination; i, subject to qualifying; k, per diem; l, per hour; m, per week; n, £10 allowance while acting as Deputy Charge; o, allowance while acting as Charge, being the difference between ordinary salary and minimum for Charge; p, over scale, payment for special services or qualifications.
