Situated on the Wanganui River Road. Access is from Taumarunui, from two miles to two miles and a quarter distant by dray-road. The land is mostly swamp, which can be easily drained. The soil is of good quality, on papa formation. The elevation ranges from about 560 ft. to 580 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Okoroa and Otahu Roads. Parts of the Otahu Road have been formed, but are overgrown with scrub, balance surveyed road only. Access is from Okahukura Railway-station, which is two miles from Section 14 and six miles distant from Section 7, by a good metalled road to within half a mile of the land, balance formed dray-road. There is a school within a few chains of the block, and the site for Tuhua Railway-station is within three miles. The sections comprise easy undulating to very steep country, a portion being open fern and manuka. The soil is of indifferent quality on open country, and good on the bush land, resting on clay and papa formation. The forest is mixed, and varies from fern and scrub to heavy bush, comprising tawa, rata, rimu, tawhero, rewarewa, hinau, &c., with a dense undergrowth of koromiko, tupari, pongas, supplejacks, karamu, &c. The sections are well watered by small streams.
Waitomo County.—Mapara Survey District.

Situated on the main Mangapehi tramline and road reserve. Section 8 has also access by the Ellis Road, which is formed. Access is from Mangapehi Railway-station, which is three miles and a half distant. About 40 acres of Section 8 is covered with light mixed bush, balance covered with manuka and fern, a fair proportion being ploughable; the soil is light, on pumice formation. Section 9 is undulating to steep country, about half being covered with heavy mixed bush of tawa, rimu, &c., the front portion being covered with manuka and fern; the soil is of fair quality containing some pumice, and there are rhyolite outcrops. Both sections are well watered by stream, and the elevation ranges from 1,050 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

The sections comprise easy undulating to steep country, broken in places, covered with a heavy mixed bush for the greater portion and open fern and scrub country at the northern end. The soil is of good quality generally on the hills, resting on rhyolite and clay formation, the open country being pumice. The forest consists of tawa, matai, tawhero, rimu, mahoe, &c., with a heavy undergrowth. The sections are well watered by streams. Elevation ranges from 1,080 ft, to 1,900 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the main Mangapehi tramline and road reserve. Access is from Mangapehi Railway-station, which is about four miles and a half distant. Section 9 has also access at the western end by Ellis Road, which is formed to the boundary. Section 7 varies from flat to undulating and hills of easy slopes, broken in places, the greater portion covered with manuka and fern, the frontage with mixed bush. Section 9 is very steep broken land on rhyolite formation, covered with heavy mixed bush. There is a little easy country on the north-western boundary, and is covered with manuka and fern. The bush comprises tawa, hinau, rata, &c. The soil is of fair quality. Elevation ranges from 1,080 ft. to 1,800 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Waimiha Road. Access is from Waimiha Railway-station, which is five miles distant—by dray-road one mile and a half, remainder pack-track. The sections comprise very steep broken country, with a little open fern and scrub land along the Waimiha Stream; the soil being of fair quality on the part covered by bush. The open country is poor, resting on pumice and rhyolite. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising matai, rimu, totara, &c., with a fairly heavy undergrowth. All the sections are well watered by streams, and the elevation ranges from 850 ft. to 1,700 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Woods Road, which is a branch road off the main Waikaka Road. Access is from Matiere, seven miles and a half to eight miles distant—by dray-road six miles, remainder pack and walking track. The sections comprise heavy bush country ranging from easy and undulating to steep and broken spurs. The whole of Section 9 and about half of Section 8 is of very fair quality, but the balance is poor. The formation is sandstone. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, hinau, towhai, mahoe, &c., with beech (birch) on spurs, with a fairly heavy undergrowth. The sections are well watered by streams. Elevation ranges from 900 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Waihuka Road, which is formed for light wagon traffic to within one mile of the section; there is a sledge-track through private property the rest of the way to the section, the last mile of the road being surveyed only. Access is from Waimiha Railway-station, which is about five miles distant. The section comprises very easy to steep country. The soil is of good to inferior quality with pumice showing, resting on papa and rhyolite formation. The forest varies from fern, manuka, and tutu to very heavy bush, comprising rata, rimu, matai, kahikatea, totara, tawa, tawhero, hinau, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejacks, mahoe, raurekau, kotukutuku, whowho, pongas, and ferns. The section is well watered by the Waihuka and small streams. Elevation ranges from 1,000 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level.
Waitomo County.—Mapara Survey District.

The sections comprise flat to fairly steep land, with outcrops of rhyolite. The soil is poor on the flats, but good on the hilly portion; well watered by small streams.
