Education Reserves in Wellington Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 12th April, 1920.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned education reserves are open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease under the provisions of the Education Reserves Act, 1908, the Land Act, 1908, and their amendments, and section 103 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act, 1919.

Applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Thursday, 27th May, 1920.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the Municipal Hall, Palmerston North, on Tuesday, 1st June, 1920, but any applicant who so desires may be examined by the Land Board of any other district. The ballot will be held at the Municipal Hall, Palmerston North, at 10 o’clock a.m., at the conclusion of the examination.

No rebate of rent will be allowed for prompt payment, and lessees will have no right to acquire the freehold.

An application may include any number of lots, but no person will be allotted more than one lot.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION.

Awapuni Reserve is situated on the main Longburn-Palmerston North Road, about two miles from the Palmerston North Post-office. It consists of level land, rich river deposit, which has been ploughed and resown and is now in good pasture. The subdivisions are eminently suitable for market gardening. Steps are being taken to sink an artesian well, and if water is obtained a supply will be laid on to the boundary of each lot. Each lot is fenced on three sides. Lot 6 is intersected by a drain reserve. The buildings on Lot 5 are of no value.

Education Reserves in North Auckland Land District for Lease by Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the education reserves described in the Schedule hereto will be offered for lease by public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, at 12 o’clock noon on Thursday, the 27th day of May, 1920, under the provisions of the Education Reserves Act, 1908, and amendments, and the Public Bodies’ Leases Act, 1908.


SCHEDULE.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Mongonui County.—Awanui Parish.

Section 9: Area, 103 acres; upset annual rental, £5.
Weighted with £21, valuation for half share of 28 chains draining.

Altitude, 50 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. About 12 acres raupo swamp, balance easy slopes to level land covered with short fern and manuka. Soil rich in swamp, poor clay (gum land) on balance of section; poorly watered by drain in swamp. Distant about five miles from Awanui, about one mile and a half of which is formed road, balance unformed.

Hobson County.—Okahu Parish.

Section 49: Area, 93 acres 0 roods 13·4 perches; upset annual rental, £10.

Weighted with £55 10s., valuation for improvements consisting of felling, grassing, and fencing.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. About 30 acres flat, 9 acres hilly to broken, balance undulating; 16 acres rough grass, 9 acres cleared and grassed, balance tea-tree scrub, &c.; few kahikatea trees. Soil mostly poor pipeclay, on clay formation; fairly watered by creek except in dry summer. Distant about nine miles from Mititai by cart-road partly metalled.

Section 98: Area, 99 acres 2 roods 14 perches; upset annual rental, £4.

Section 99: Area, 99 acres 3 roods 17 perches; upset annual rental, £4.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. About 20 acres peat swamp hard to drain and 20 acres level land in each section, balance undulating, covered with fern and manuka scrub. Soil clay and pipeclay, on clay subsoil; well watered by swampy springs. Distant about eleven miles from Mititai by formed cart-road, metalled three-quarters of the distance, and about a quarter of a mile of track to reach Section 98.

Rodney County.—Oruawharo Parish.

Section 188: Area, 225 acres; upset annual rental, £11 10s.

Weighted with £58, valuation for improvements comprising ploughing and grassing, surface sowing, fencing, &c.

Altitude, 24 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. About 30 acres flat, 100 acres undulating, balance very broken to precipitous; all covered with fern and scrub, except 70 acres recently burnt. Clay soil, varying in quality from fair to very poor, on clay subsoil; well watered by streams and springs. Distant about one mile and a quarter from Te Hana Railway-station by formed cart-road not metalled.

Mongonui County.—Oruru Parish.

Section 28: Area, 39 acres 2 roods 19 perches; upset annual rent, £5.

Elevation, 100 ft. to 275 ft. above sea-level. The soil is of alluvial light clay, and heavy clay resting on clay formation. The forest is ordinary light mixed. Well watered by streams. About 3 acres alluvial flat, 4 acres light bush, balance undulating to hilly open lands, except about 14 acres in rough grass. Distant from Mangonui twelve miles and a half by good metalled road to within a few chains of section (balance no road).

Franklin County.—Otai Parish.

Section N. 67: Area, 381 acres; upset annual rental, £20.

Elevation, 500 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. Practically all bush land, broken. Soil clayey loam on sandstone formation; well watered by running streams. Forest is light to heavy, comprising tawa, rata, hinau, miro, and a little totara, with a dense undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, munga-munga, &c. Distant about eight miles from Clevedon, about six miles being by cart-road, balance unformed.

Rodney County.—Pakiri Survey District.

Section 4, Block IX: Area, 114 acres 1 rood 37·7 perches; upset annual rent, £12.

Weighted with £17 10s., valuation for improvements comprising—felling and grassing, 5 acres, £10; ten chains fencing, £7 10s.

Elevation from 100 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. The soil is of a loamy, clayey nature, resting on clay formation. The forest is medium mixed; comprising kahikatea (small), puketea, manuka, &c., with a fairly dense undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, &c. Well watered by small stream. About 20 acres bush, balance of area open land in fern, tea-tree, and rushes. Level to easy undulating land, mostly ploughable. Distant eight miles from Wellsford Railway-station—about two miles by formed and metalled road and six miles roughly formed clay road in poor repair.

Section 8, Block IX: Area, 142 acres 3 roods 24·3 perches; upset annual rent, £15.

Weighted with £39, valuation for improvements comprising—felling, 15 acres; grassing, 15 acres; and fencing.

Elevation from 100 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. The soil is of a loamy, clayey nature, resting on clay formation; well watered by small stream. Open land in fern and tea-tree, about 15 acres grass, level to easy undulating land, all ploughable. Distant eight miles and a quarter from Wellsford Railway-station—eight miles by formed cart-road, two miles of which is metalled, and twenty chains no formed road access.
