Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Butchers' Shops in the Borough of Hastings, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers' shops in the Borough of Hastings, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 5 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and New Year's Day, when the closing-hour shall be 6 p.m.; (2) subject to the foregoing exception, when any day is generally observed as a holiday in the borough, any shop that is closed at not later than 12 noon on that day and that is usually closed for the statutory half-holiday on another day of the week may remain open on the latter day until the hour fixed by this notice for the day on which the holiday is observed; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe (pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908) Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5 p.m.:

And whereas the Hastings Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers' shops in the Borough of Hastings :

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 22nd day of February, 1920, all the butchers' shops in the borough of Hastings shall be closed as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 5 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year's Day the closing-hour shall be 6 p.m.; (2) subject to the foregoing exception, when any day is generally observed as a holiday in the borough, any shop that is closed at not later than 1 p.m. on that day and that is usually closed for the statutory half-holiday on another day of the week may remain open on the latter day until the hour fixed by this notice for the day on which the holiday is observed; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe (pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908) Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5 p.m.

(1.) The working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and New Year's Day, when the closing-hour shall be 6 p.m.

(2.) Subject to the foregoing exception, when any day is generally observed as a holiday in the borough, any shop that is closed not later than 12 noon on that day and that is usually closed for the statutory half-holiday on another day of the week may remain open on the latter day until the hour fixed by this notice for the day on which the holiday is observed.

(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observed (pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908) Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5 p.m. and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 6 p.m.:

And whereas the Napier Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers' shops within the Borough of Napier:

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of March, 1920, all the butchers' shops in the Borough of Napier shall be closed as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5 p.m., and on Saturdays at 6 p.m., with the following exceptions:—

(1.) On the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and 'on the working-day immediately preceding New Year's Day the closing-hour shall be 6 p.m.

Subject to the foregoing exception, when any day is generally observed as a holiday in the borough, any shop that is closed at not later than 1 p.m. on that day and that is usually closed for the statutory half-holiday on another day of the week may remain open on the latter day until the hour fixed by this notice for the day on which the holiday is observed.

(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5 p.m. and the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XIV, Kawhia North Survey District, Kawhia County, for the Purpose of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road in Block XIV, Kawhia North Survey District, Kawhia County; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken.

And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Kinohaku, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken : 7 acres 1 rood 16 perches.

Portion of Section 4, Block XIV, Kawhia North Survey District. (S.O. 20418.)

In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 46210, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured blue.

Government Guarantee as to Export of Fruit.—Notice No. 1996.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Government guarantees to shippers a net return of ld. per pound net weight on all fresh fruit exported from New Zealand during the present season, provided that the guarantee shall apply only to shipments complying with the Government stipulations and covered by a Government Inspector's certificate.

The Legislature Act, 1908.—Fixing Place and Date for Trial of Election Petition.

IN exercise of all powers and authorities me enabling in this behalf, I, Robert Stout, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, Chief Justice of New Zealand, being one of the Judges of the Supreme Court of New Zealand named and appointed to try the petition presented under the Legislature Act, 1908, and all the Acts amending the same, by William Horne Hargreaves Young, of Stratford, Auctioneer, George Hall, of Stratford, Farmer, and John Bird Hine, of Stratford, Farmer, against the return and election of Robert Masters as a member of Parliament for the Electoral District of Stratford, do hereby fix the Magistrate's Court at Stratford as the place where, and Monday, the 15th day of March, 1920, at the hour of 10.30 in the forenoon, as the time when, the said petition shall be tried.
