NOTIFICATION.

  1. In the case of officers shown as “Over scale” the increases in salaries beyond the maximum of the class are not payable until they have been authorized by Parliament.

  2. Salaries of professional officers in excess of £700 are, so far as regards any increase beyond the amount voted last year or beyond £700, as the case may be, subject to authorization by Parliament (section 20, subsection (3), Public Service Act).

  3. As far as practicable, all salaries have been made payable as from a common date—namely, the 1st April, 1919.

  4. For the purpose of comparing the salary shown for the year ended 31st March, 1919, with the salary for the year ending 31st March, 1920, reference to the previous list should be made.

  5. In some Departments the provision of free houses, instead of charging rental, has been considered in connection with the increase of salary.

  6. In the Department of Agriculture Inspectors of Stock, who have hitherto provided their own means of locomotion, have been relieved from this expenditure, which is now assumed by the Department.

  7. No regrading of School Inspectors has been possible, as the scale provided under the Education Act, 1914, has not yet been amended by Parliament.

  8. In this list all war bonuses are considered to have been incorporated in the salary provided.

  9. In the preparation of the regrading it has been contemplated that section 24 of the Public Service Act may be applied in the event of any appreciable increase or reduction in the cost of commodities.
