REGULATIONS.

  1. NOTWITHSTANDING anything contained in the regulations made under the Animals Protection Act, 1908, dated 13th February, 1919, the Secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatization Society at Christchurch, or any person or persons duly authorized in writing by such Secretary, may, during the period hereinafter mentioned, kill red deer of either sex and of any age which, in the opinion of the said Secretary or of the said authorized persons, should be destroyed either by reason of age, deformity, or other physical imperfection.

  2. Such deer may be destroyed as aforesaid from the date hereof to 31st December, 1919.

  3. A return shall be furnished to the Minister of Internal Affairs by the said Secretary within one calendar month after the expiry of the aforesaid period, and such return shall state the number and sexes of all red deer so destroyed as aforesaid, the dates and name of person by whom and the locality in which the deer were destroyed.

  4. The said Secretary may, with the authority of the said society, authorize the sale, either by auction or otherwise, during the currency of these regulations of deer destroyed pursuant to these regulations, and of the meat and skins of such deer; provided that the proceeds derived from such sale shall be devoted to patriotic purposes.

4A. The said Secretary shall, on or before the 31st day of January, 1920, furnish a statement of the moneys received from such sale and of the patriotic purpose or purposes to which they were devoted.

  1. Any person who commits a breach of any of the provisions of these regulations shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £20.

Acute Primary Pneumonia, Pneumonic Influenza, Septicæmic Influenza, and Fulminant Influenza declared to be Infectious Diseases.


LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance of section twelve of the Public Health Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the diseases known as acute primary pneumonia, pneumonic influenza, septicæmic influenza, and fulminant influenza to be infectious diseases within the meaning of the said Act.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this thirtieth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

IN pursuance of section twelve of the Public Health Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the infectious diseases known as pneumonic influenza, septicæmic influenza, and fulminant influenza to be dangerous infectious diseases within the meaning of the said Act.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this ninth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.


LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-eighth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and section one hundred and thirty-five of the Land Act, 1908, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.


SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

Raglan County.—Rangiriri Survey District.

Section 25, Block XI: Area, 46 acres 0 roods 7 perches; capital value, £205; half-yearly rent, £4 2s.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, covered with fern and manuka. Soil of second-class quality, on clay subsoil; poorly watered by swampy springs. Distant about two miles and a half from Huntly by good road.

Section 29, Block VII: Area, 56 acres 0 roods 7 perches; capital value, £155; half-yearly rent, £3 2s.

Altitude, 40 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Three-fourths rush swamp, peaty; balance undulating fern and manuka country. Soil of second-class quality, on clay subsoil; well watered by swamp. Distant about two miles and a half from Huntly, one mile and three-quarters of which is by formed road, balance under construction.


CROWN LAND.

Kawhia County.—Kawhia South Survey District.

Section 4, Block III: Area, 588 acres 3 roods 16 perches; capital value, £1,030; half-yearly rent, £20 12s.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, kohekohe, tawhero, rewarewa, rata, &c., with heavy undergrowth of makomako, konini, mahoe, punga, &c. Soil of medium quality, on limestone formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about nine miles from Kawhia, six miles of which is by launch to Rakaunui, thence about three miles and a half by formed bridle-track.

Section 6, Block VI: Area, 297 acres; capital value, £670; half-yearly rent, £13 8s.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, kohekohe, tawhero, rewarewa, rimu, and a patch of heavy manuka, with heavy undergrowth of punga, mahoe, konini, &c. Soil of good quality, on limestone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about eleven miles from Kawhia, of which about eight miles is by launch to Mahoe Landing, balance formed by bridle-track.

Section 10, Block VI: Area, 460 acres 2 roods; half-yearly rent, £20 16s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, tawhero, rewarewa, rimu, &c., with heavy undergrowth of konini, mahoe, makomako, punga, &c. Soil of good quality, on limestone formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about seventeen miles from Kawhia, of which about seven miles is by launch to Kinohaku, about five miles by metalled road, three miles formed bridle-track, balance unformed as yet.

Section 9, Block VI: Area, 395 acres 1 rood; capital value, £890; half-yearly rent, £17 16s.

Altitude, 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, tawhero, rewarewa, rimu, &c., with heavy undergrowth of mahoe, konini, makomako, punga, &c. Soil of good quality, on limestone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about fifteen miles from Kawhia, of which about eight miles is by launch to Mahoe Landing, balance formed bridle-track.

Section 6, Block VII: Area, 385 acres; capital value, £570; half-yearly rent, £11 8s.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Broken country, covered with mixed forest comprising tawa, tawhero, rewarewa, kohekohe, rimu, &c., with heavy undergrowth of konini, mahoe, punga, makomako, &c. Soil of medium quality, on limestone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about eleven miles and a half from Kawhia—about eight miles by launch; balance by formed bridle-track.
