Award of Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-service Medal.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the award of the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-service Medal to
Lieutenant-Colonel CHARLES GEORGE FREDERICK MORICE,
New Zealand Medical Corps,
he having a total service up to the 21st April, 1919, entitling him thereto, of twenty years.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops in the Borough of Invercargill under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough (save and except that shop known as the “Night Pharmacy,” established at No. 88 Esk Street, in the Borough of Invercargill, for the purpose only of the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently needed) be closed in the evenings of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9.30 p.m., with the the following exceptions—(1) the working-day immediately proceeding each of the following days, Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.; (2) the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when there shall be no fixed closing-hour; (3) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant to the provisions of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any day therein mentioned and referred to in exception (1) above, other than Wednesday, as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour for any such shop on Wednesday in that week shall be 6 p.m., and should such day fall on Saturday the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop in that week shall be 9·30 p.m.; (4) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m., and the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop shall be 9·30 p.m.
And whereas the Invercargill Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Invercargill:
And whereas I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, am satisfied that all the occupiers of chemists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill affected by section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1915, as amended by section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1917, have been afforded an equal right to share in the profits of the business carried on by such specified shop:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, and of section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1915, I do hereby direct that on and after the 7th day of May, 1919, all chemists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill, except such specified shop, shall be closed accordingly.
All notices previously gazetted fixing the closing-hours of chemists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill shall be cancelled, in so far as they relate to chemists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill, after the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

NOTE.—Pursuant to section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1915, as amended by section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1917, it will not be lawful for any chemist whose shop is situated within the borough and within two miles of the exempted shop, by the nearest route as determined by the Inspector of Factories, to supply any goods after the hours fixed by this notice, nor after 1 o’clock on the statutory half-holiday, except that, pursuant to section 18 (d) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any chemist’s shop may on that day be reopened between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. only for the supply of medicines and surgical appliances.

IN pursuance of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll taken on the 28th day of March, 1919, on the proposal to borrow £68,000 for road making and metalling in the Bay of Islands County, the voting was as follows: For the proposal, 423 votes; against the proposal, 152 votes.
I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of ratepayers of the Johnsonville Town District was taken on the 16th day of April, 1919, on the proposal of the Johnsonville Town Board to borrow the sum of £3,000 for the purpose of purchasing land in Johnsonville and erect waterworks thereon.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 51, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 15.
I therefore declare the proposal was carried.
