Teachers holding Certificates or Licenses under the Education Act, 1914.

THE following lists of teachers are issued under the authority of the Minister of Education in accordance with the regulations respecting teachers’ certificates made by Order in Council on the 13th February, 1912, and with the amendments thereto made on the 3rd May, 1917. Part I also serves the purpose of an alphabetical index to the general graded list of teachers published below.

Parts I and II contain the names of the certificated and licensed teachers respectively who are at present employed in some form of public instruction, or who were so employed up to a few years ago.

The names of the teachers who are not known to have been engaged in teaching at any time during the past five years have been removed from the list, except when such teachers have made special application to be graded, and the retention of their names in the alphabetical list has been necessary to show their positions on the graded list.

In Part I there is shown in each case the class of certificate held as defined by the regulations. Under the heading “Engagement,” employment in the several classes of schools is indicated by the abbreviations shown in brackets in each case: Public school (P.S.); Native Maori schools (Nat.); recognized classes under the Regulations for Manual and Technical Instruction (Tech.); schools in special Government institutions (Spec.); private schools registered under the Education Act, 1914 (Priv.); public secondary schools (Sec.); University colleges (Univ.); training colleges (Tr. C.); while students of training colleges are indicated by “Norm.”; Inspectors of Schools by “Insp.”; and other departmental certificated officers by “Dept.” Teachers who are known to be on active service have been included in the classification list, and have been indicated by “Ex. F.” In the case of such teachers eligible for grading, military service has been counted as teaching service, and due recognition has been given of their claims for advancement on the grading-list. A blank opposite a name shows that the teacher is at present unemployed so far as is known to the Department. The district in which a public-school teacher is engaged may be ascertained by referring to the graded list.
