in writing by such Secretary, may, during the period herein-
after mentioned, kill red deer of either sex and of any age
which, in the opinion of the said Secretary or of the said
authorized persons, should be destroyed either by reason of
age, deformity, or other physical imperfection.
2. Such deer may be destroyed as aforesaid from the date
hereof to 31st December, 1919.
3. A return shall be furnished to the Minister of Internal
Affairs by the said Secretary within one calendar month
after the expiry of the aforesaid period, and such return
shall state the number and sexes of all red deer so destroyed
as aforesaid, the dates and name of person by whom and
the locality in which the deer were destroyed.
4. The said Secretary may, with the authority of the said
society, authorize the sale, either by auction or otherwise,
during the currency of these regulations of deer destroyed
pursuant to these regulations, and of the meat and skins of
such deer; provided that the proceeds derived from such
sale shall be devoted to patriotic purposes.
4A. The said Secretary shall, on or before the 31st day of
January, 1920, furnish a statement of the moneys received
from such sale and of the patriotic purpose or purposes to
which they were devoted.
5. Any person who commits a breach of any of the pro-
visions of these regulations shall be liable to a penalty not
exceeding £20.

Special Regulations for Deer-shooting, Otago.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals
Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile,
Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of
New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations
prescribing the conditions under which certain red deer may
be destroyed in the Otago Acclimatization District.


REGULATIONS.

  1. NOTWITHSTANDING anything contained in the regulations
    made under the Animals Protection Act, 1908, dated 13th
    February, 1919, the Secretary of the Otago Acclimatization
    Society at Dunedin, or any person or persons duly authorized
    in writing by such Secretary, may, during the period herein-

Amending Regulations under Section 24 of the Land Act, 1908.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by section twenty-four of the Land
Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liver-
pool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand,
do hereby amend, in the manner set forth in the Schedule
hereto, the regulations under the said section twenty-four
dated the seventeenth day of May, one thousand nine hun-
dred and twelve, and published in the New Zealand Gazette
of the thirtieth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and
twelve.


SCHEDULE.

AMENDMENT OF REGULATIONS DATED THE 17TH DAY
OF MAY, 1912.

CLAUSE 7 of the regulations made under the said section 24
on the 17th day of May, 1912, is hereby amended by omitting
therefrom the words “consent of all the beneficial owners
interested,” and substituting therefor the words “consent of
the majority of the beneficial owners interested.”

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, this twenty-second day of March, one
thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

Opening Settlement Land in Canterbury Land District for
Selection by Discharged Soldiers.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908; and the
Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and amendments, I, Arthur
William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-
General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare
that the settlement land described in the Schedule hereto
which has been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers
shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renew-
able lease on Tuesday, the twenty-seventh day of May, one
thousand nine hundred and nineteen, at the rental mentioned
in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land
shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said
Acts.


SCHEDULE.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Ellesmere County.—Southbridge and Leeston Survey Districts,
—Leeston Settlement.

SECTION 5: Area, 36 acres 0 roods 6 perches; capital value,
£1,870; half-yearly rent, £42 1s. 6d.
All good, flat, agricultural land in grass and stubble.
Watered by a creek. Section is ring-fenced. Access by good
road about one mile from Leeston Railway-station.

thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

Trustee for the Matire Public Cemetery appointed.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in me by section four of the Cemeteries Act,
1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool,
the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do
hereby appoint

CHARLES ELLISTON

to be a trustee, in the place of Thomas Taylor, resigned,
to provide for the maintenance and care of the Matire
Public Cemetery, in conjunction with Charles Edward
Stewart, John Gray, Thomas Harry White, and James
Norris Langman, previously appointed.

General, this twenty-second day of March, one
thousand nine hundred and nineteen.
