THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., red, ev. 3 secs.
Alteration.—The flashing white light has been replaced by a flashing red light every three seconds.
Note.—The shoal extending to the northward from this light-buoy is now known as Half-moon Shoal instead of Horse-shoe Shoal, and the charts are to be amended accordingly.

SOUTH AMERICA.

RÍO DE LA PLATA.—SAN JOSE IGNACIO POINT LIGHTHOUSE.—REPORTED TO LIE FURTHER WESTWARD THAN CHARTED.

Position on Charts.—Lighthouse, lat. 34° 51½′ S., long. 54° 37¼′ W.

Caution.—San Jose Ignacio Point Lighthouse is reported to lie about 2 miles further to the westward than charted, and a note to this effect, with date “(1919),” is to be placed on the charts.

BRAZIL.—CAPE BACOPARY.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position.—Near extremity of Cape Bacopary. Lat. 6° 23′ 48″ S., long. 34° 59′ 10″ W., on Chart No. 889.

Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (4), ev. 15 secs., 82 ft., vis. 15 m.

Characteristics :
Character.—A group flashing white light, showing four flashes every fifteen seconds, thus—flash 1 sec., eclipse 2 secs.; flash 1 sec., eclipse 2 secs.; flash 1 sec., eclipse 2 secs.; flash 1 sec., eclipse 5 secs.
Elevation.—82 ft.
Visibility.—15 miles.
Structure.—An iron tower standing on four columns, painted white, and 39 ft. in height.

URUGUAY.—RÍO DE LA PLATA.—MONTEVIDEO BAY.—WRECKS AND WRECK-MARKING LIGHT BUOYS AND BUOY REMOVED.

  1. Position.—At a distance of about one cable north-westward from the flashing red light on northern end of West Breakwater. Lat. 34° 54¼′ S., long. 56° 14′ W
    Description.—Wreck marked by a black conical buoy.

  2. Position.—At a distance of about 1¼ cables north-westward from the flashing red light on northern end of West Breakwater.
    Description.—Wreck marked by a conical light-buoy, exhibiting a fixed green light, and situated northward of wreck.

  3. Position.—At a distance of about 3 cables north-eastward from the flashing red light on northern end of West Breakwater.
    Description.—Wreck marked by a light-buoy, exhibiting a fixed white light.

Remarks.—The above-mentioned wrecks and wreck-marking light-buoys and buoy are to be expunged from the chart.

NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

SANDWICH ISLANDS, OAHU.—HONOLULU HARBOUR.—ALTERATIONS IN AIDS TO NAVIGATION.

  1. New leading-lights exhibited :

(a) Front light :
Position.—On light-tower on Alakea Wharf. Lat. 21° 18¼′ N., long. 157° 52′ W.
Abridged Description.—Lt. F., red, 56 ft., vis 12 m.
Characteristics :
Character.—A fixed red light.
Elevation.—56 ft.
Visibility.—12 miles.

(b) Rear light :
Position.—At a distance of 20 yards, 210° (S. 19° W. mag.), from light-tower shown on charts near the post-office.
Abridged Description.—Lt. F., red, 112 ft., vis. 14 m.
Characteristics :
Character.—A fixed red light.
Elevation.—112 ft.
Visibility.—14 miles.

Note.—The above leading-lights are in line when bearing 30° (N. 19° E. mag.).

Remarks.—The light-tower mentioned above, hitherto shown on the charts near the post-office, is to be expunged.

  1. Light discontinued and buoy withdrawn :
    Details.—No. 8 pile light on the eastern side of the channel has been discontinued, and No. 10 red conical buoy on the eastern side of the channel has been withdrawn.

Note.—The light and buoy are to be expunged from the charts.

Variation.—11° E.

SHOAL REPORTED.

Position (approximate).—Lat. 8° 17′ N., long. 173° 25′ W.
Depth.—3 fathoms.

Remarks.—This shoal was reported by Captain W. Olson, master of the schooner “S. G. Wilder.”
Note.—The shoal is to be marked on the charts with the note “Repd. (1919).”

CHINA.

SOUTH COAST.—HONG KONG HARBOUR.—ALTERATION IN POSITION OF LIGHT-BUOYS.

  1. Northern light-buoy marking western end of central fairway :
    New Position.—At a distance of about 350 yards westward from former position. Lat. 22° 18′ 2″ N., long. 114° 7′ 50″ E.
    Description.—A light-buoy, painted red and white, exhibiting a flashing white light every three seconds.

  2. Southern light-buoy marking western end of central fairway.
    New Position.—At a distance of about 360 yards westward from former position. Lat. 22° 17′ 51″ N., long. 114° 7′ 50″ E.
    Description.—A light-buoy, painted red and white, exhibiting a flashing white light every three seconds.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

SAMOA ISLANDS.—UPOLU ISLAND.—APIA HARBOUR.—COLOUR OF BUOYS.

The port authorities at Apia, Samoa, have given notice that the mooring-buoys in Apia Harbour are now painted black and numbered, from east to west, 1, 2, and 3.

Approx. position : 13° 49′ S., 171° 44′ W.

AUSTRALIA.

EAST COAST, NEW SOUTH WALES.—TACKING POINT LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.

Date of Alteration.—On or about 31st October, 1919.
Position.—Near extremity of Tacking Point. Lat. 31° 28¼′ S., long. 152° 57¼′ E.
New Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (4), ev. 12 secs., 105 ft., vis. 12 m. (U).
Alteration.—The character of the light will be altered from fixed white to group flashing white showing a group of four flashes every twelve seconds, thus—flash ⅓ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ⅓ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ⅓ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ⅓ sec., eclipse 7⅔ secs.
Remarks.—The light will be unwatched, and the signal-station discontinued.
Note.—No further notice will be given.

PORT KEMBLA LEADING LIGHTS—ALTERATION OF ELEVATION AND STRUCTURE OF TOWERS.

On and after the 1st December, 1919, the fairway leading lights at Port Kembla will be exhibited from new towers. The particulars are as follow :—

Position.—On foreshore between coal jetties.
Character.—Fixed; two red lights.
Elevation.—Front light, 40¼ ft.; back light, 70¼ ft.
Visibility.—9 miles; bearing, when in line, 206 degrees (S. 16 degrees west correct magnetic).
Structure.—Steel lattice-work towers, painted white, 671½ ft. apart.
Variation.—9 degrees 40 minutes east.

REMARKS.—These leading-lights, when in line, lead approximately half a nautical mile to the westward of Inner Tom Thumb Island, and about midway between the breakwaters of Port Kembla.

The bearings given of the light are both true and magnetic, and from seaward. The visibility is that in clear weather. The height given is that above high water.

Notice to Mariners No. 5043, issued by Department of Navigation, Sydney, on the 10th February, 1916, is withdrawn and cancelled.

SOUTH COAST—VICTORIA.—CAPE LIPTRAP LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.

Position.—Lat. 38° 54½′ S., long. 145° 55¾′ E.
New Abridged Description.—(U) lt. gp. fl. (3), ev. 15 secs., 300 ft., vis. 23 m.
Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from group flashing white showing two flashes to group flashing white showing three flashes every fifteen seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 11½ secs.

EAGLE NEST LIGHT.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN CHARACTERISTICS.

Date of Alteration.—On or about 1st October, 1919.
Position.—Lat. 38° 28¼′ S., long. 144° 6¼′ E.
New Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (4), W.R., ev. 12 secs., 218 ft., vis. 20 & 9 m. (U).
