of such combined districts; provided that every elector on
such rolls shall have only one vote at the election.

(5.) The local authority of each constituent district in a
combined district shall, on or before the day fixed for nomina-
tions, supply the Returning Officer with as many copies
of the electors roll of its district as may be required for the
purposes of the election.

(6.) In the case of any constituent district comprising only
part of a borough, county, town district, or road district, the
Clerk of any such borough, county, town district, or road
district shall prepare from the existing roll thereof a list of the
electors whose qualifications as such arise within or relate
to the part of the borough, county, town district, or road
district forming the constituent district, and such list of
electors when certified by the Clerk preparing the same shall
form and be the electors roll for such constituent district;
and it shall be the duty of the Clerk preparing any such roll
to supply to the Returning Officer, on or before the day
fixed for nominations, as many copies of such roll as he may
require for the purposes of the election, and the cost of pre-
paring such separate roll shall be part of the cost of the
election.

(7.) The cost of any election within a combined district
shall be borne and paid by the several local authorities of the
constituent districts included in such combined district in
the proportion which the unimproved value of the constituent
district bears to the total unimproved value of the combined
district.

(8.) The Returning Officer shall provide such polling-
booths throughout the combined district as he considers
necessary, and shall appoint as many Deputy Returning
Officers and poll-clerks as are required for the effective taking
of the poll at every such polling-booth.

(9.) The poll shall close throughout the combined district
at the hour at which it closes for an election in the district
of the principal local authority.

(10.) As soon as conveniently may be after ascertaining
the result of any election, the Returning Officer therefor
shall notify the Minister of Public Works of the result.

Southland Electric-power Board.—First Election.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this seventeenth
day of November, 1919.

Present :

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS, in pursuance of the powers vested in the
Governor-General by section three of the Electric-
power Boards Act, 1918, the Southland Electric-power Dis-
trict was duly constituted by Proclamation dated the four-
teenth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and
nineteen :

And whereas section ten of the said Act provides that the
first election of representatives of any constituent district
or combined district in any electric-power district shall be
held on such day as the Governor-General by Order in Council
appoints :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion,
and in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon him by the said Act, doth hereby appoint
Saturday, the twentieth day of December, one thousand nine
hundred and nineteen, as the day on which shall be held the
first election of representatives of the constituent districts
and combined districts in the said Southland Electric-power
District.

Apportionment of Representation on Southland Electric-power
Board.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS, in pursuance of the powers vested in the
Governor-General by the Electric-power Boards Act,
1918, a Proclamation was issued on the fourteenth day of
November, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, con-
stituting the Southland Electric-power District to be a district
under and for the purposes of the said Act :

And whereas the said Act requires that the number of
representatives of each constituent district in the said district
shall be such as is determined from time to time in each case
by the Governor-General by Order in Council :

And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor-General in
Council, it is expedient to combine certain of the said con-
stituent districts into combined districts, and to determine
the number of members to be elected in common as the repre-
sentative of each such combined district :

And whereas the said Act further requires that the Governor-
General shall, by Order in Council, from time to time select
and appoint one of the local authorities of any combined
district to be the principal local authority of that combined
district within the meaning and for the purposes of the said
Act :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion,
and in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon him by the said Act, doth hereby determine
with respect to the Southland Electric-power District as
follows :—

(1.) The constituent districts which are bracketed together
in the first column of the Schedule hereto are hereby con-
stited combined districts for the purpose of the said Act.

(2.) The local authority of each constituent district dis-
tinguished in the first column of the Schedule hereto by
the letter “ p ” is hereby declared to be the principal local
authority of the combined district in which that constituent
district is included.

(3.) The number of representatives of each constituent or
combined district on the Board of the said district shall be
the number specified in the second column of the Schedule
hereto opposite the name of that constituent or combined
district.
