A flashing white light every 3 seconds (flash 1 second, eclipse 2 seconds), visible 22 miles, has been established on Toppers (Button) Island, in Sunda Strait.
Approx. position: 5° 54′ S., 105° 56′ E.

BAY OF BENGAL.
ARAKAN COAST.—CHEDUBA STRAIT.—NORTHERN APPROACH.—ISLANDS DISAPPEARED.

The two volcanic islets reported in Notice to Mariners No. 8 (534) of 1919 have been washed away leaving shoals only, over which the sea breaks heavily in the south-west monsoon.
Approx. positions: 19° 2′ 35″ N., 93° 22′ 55″ E.; and 19° N., 93° 24′ 35″ E.

THE Auckland Harbour Board reports that the beacon which marks Ilymana Rock has been knocked down by some unknown vessel.

KAWHIA BAR BEACONS.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 5th November, 1919.

NOTICE has been received from the Kawhia Harbour authorities that the Kawhia Bar has shifted to the north, and now occupies the same position as prior to September, 1917 (see N.M. No. 118, October, 1910).

The leading-beacons for entering the harbour have been altered as follows:—

The beacon on the sandbank to seaward of Te Motu Island has been re-established and painted white, and the front beacon on the rock off South Head has been painted brown, and is not to be used.

The beacon on the sandbank and that on the western extreme of Te Motu in line bear 125° (S. 71° E. magnetic), and lead over the bar in 13 ft. mean low-water springs, and well clear of the South Bank.

on Wednesday, 21st January, Wednesday, 18th February, Thursday, 18th March, Wednesday, 21st April, Wednesday, 19th May, Wednesday, 16th June, Wednesday, 21st July, Wednesday, 18th August, Wednesday, 15th September, Wednesday, 20th October, Wednesday, 17th November, and Wednesday, 15th December.

AS in previous years, cards were sent out by post to grain-growers throughout the Dominion, asking them to state what areas they had sown or proposed to sow in wheat and oats this season.

The subjoined estimates are based on the figures obtained by a tabulation of the cards returned.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops in the Borough of New Plymouth, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops in the Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough, save and except that shop established at King Street, in the Borough of New Plymouth, for the purpose of the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently needed, be closed in the evenings of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m. and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) on the two working-days immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the two working-days immediately preceding New Year’s Day, the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.; (2) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe (pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908) Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m., and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m.; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe (pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908) any of the special days mentioned therein other than Thursday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop in that week shall be 6 p.m., and should such special day fall on Saturday the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop in that week shall be 9 p.m.:
