DESCRIPTION.
Sections 19 and 43, Block I, front on Orchard Road, about two miles from Ngatea. All peat of fair quality, varying in depth from 2 ft. 6 in. to 7 ft. Covered with growth of wiwi, fern, and manuka. Can easily be brought in, as adjoining land is carrying dairying stock and supplying a factory.
Sections 20 and 21, Block V, are situated from two to three miles from Ngatea Post-office. Access by good clay road. Good swamp land, carrying manuka, flax, and rushes.
Sections 10 to 17, Block IX, are situated from three to four miles from Kaihere Post-office. Access is by clay road, or by water to Ngarua Landing. They consist of good swamp land, carrying manuka, flax, and rushes, with rough feed interspersed.
Sections 18 to 25, Block IX, front the Mangawhero Road, and are situated about five miles from Kaihere and six miles from Patetonga. The road is clayed to within about a mile of the block, and it is expected that it will be completed to the Mangawhero Landing in a few months. They consist of good swamp land, carrying manuka, flax, and rushes, with rough feed interspersed.
Sections 64 to 70, Block XIII, front the Tramway Road, between one mile and a half and two miles and a half from Patetonga Post-office and a few chains from Patetonga Wharf. Sections 63 to 66 consist of good swamp land, carrying manuka, flax, and rushes; Sections 67 to 70 are not of such good quality, and carry manuka and rushes.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS.
Selectors will be required, before placing any stock upon their holdings, to securely ring fence and also to fence off all drains, so as to prevent damage to roads and drains by stock.
The Department reserves the right of entering upon the lands at any time for drainage purposes, and of making and deepening drains, without payment of compensation.
Selectors will be responsible for maintenance of all boundary, catchment, and surface drains within their sections.

Land in the Canterbury Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.
District Lands and Survey Office,

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Monday, the 8th December, 1919.
The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for thirty-three years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Thursday, the 11th December, 1919, at 10 o'clock a.m.
The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

DESCRIPTIONS OF SECTIONS.
Section 1.-Undulating to steep grazing-country, with small areas of river-flats fairly well grassed, with about 16 acres of birch bush. Fair soil, swampy in places; well watered. Three miles and a half from Springburn Railway-station—by good metalled road two miles and a half, and by unformed road one mile.
Section 2.-Level and undulating grazing-land, swampy in places. Fair soil, well watered. Contains patches of birch bush. About three miles from Springburn Railway-station by good metalled road, with exception of about thirty chains which are unformed.
Weighted with £60 for a whare at present on Section 3 and a shed on Section 7, which may be removed, and are to be paid for either in cash or out of advances.
Section 3.-Level and undulating grazing-country, rather swampy in places, with a considerable growth of rushes, and stony in other places. Well grassed and well watered. Access by good metalled road about two miles and three-quarters from Springburn Railway-station. There is a whare on this section for removal to Section 2.
Section 4.-All practically level grazing-country, well grassed, somewhat swampy and stony in places, with small patches of rushes. Good soil, fairly well watered. Access is by good metalled road about four miles from Springburn Railway-station.
Section 5.-About 120 acres hills covered with inferior birch bush, remainder undulating to steep grazing-country well grassed and well watered, somewhat swampy in places, with patches of rushes. About four miles and a half from Springburn Railway-station by good metalled road, excepting about three-quarters of a mile at present unformed.
Section 6.-About 40 acres hills covered with inferior birch bush, remainder undulating grazing-land well grassed and well watered. Access the same as Section 5.
Section 7.-All flat land of good quality, well watered and well grassed. About two miles and three-quarters from Springburn Railway-station by good metalled road.
Weighted with £210 for improvements, consisting of three cottages, which may be paid for either in cash or by twenty half-yearly instalments of £13 6s. or out of advances. There is a large shed on this section for removal to Section 2.
IMPROVEMENTS.
The improvements that go with the land are for boundary and interior fencing valued as follows : Section 1, 119 chains, £30 ; Section 2, 203 chains, £63 ; Section 3, 348 chains, £125 ; Section 4, 150 chains, £38 ; Section 5, 152 chains, £42 ; Section 6, 164 chains, £44 ; Section 7, 69 chains, £21.
The improvements not included in the capital value of the land, and which will have to be paid for separately, are as follows:-
Section 3.-Nine-roomed house, dairy, large barn, woolshed, twelve-bail cow-shed with concrete floor, four-roomed cottage, wood-shed, and six other sheds, valued at £1,230, which may be paid by cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £62 2s. 4d.; total half-yearly payment on lease, £153 18s. 4d.
