Deputy Sheriff appointed.

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointment in the Public Service:—
GEORGE SMEATON CLARK
to be Deputy Sheriff for the district of Wellington, for the purposes of the Judicature Act, 1908, as from the 26th day of July, 1919.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Watchmakers’ and Jewellers’ Shops in the City of Christchurch, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller in the City of Christchurch, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (2) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the days therein mentioned other than Saturday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Saturday for any such shop in that week shall be 6 p.m., and should such special day fall on Friday the closing-hour on the working-day immediately preceding such Friday shall, subject to exception (1) hereof, be 9 p.m.:
And whereas the Christchurch City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller within the City of Christchurch:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 3rd day of September, 1919, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller in the City of Christchurch shall be closed accordingly.
All notices hitherto gazetted fixing the closing-hours of shops in the above-mentioned trades in the City of Christchurch are hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Wairewa County Council has, by special order, declared gorse (Ulex europæus), broom (Cytisus scoparius), ox-eye daisy (Chrysanthemum leucanthemum), and foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) to be noxious weeds within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its jurisdiction.
