Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Clothiers’, Mercers’, and Hatters’ Shops in the City of Auckland, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier, (2) mercer, and (3) hatter in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) (a) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding each of the following days: Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; and (b) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m. : (2) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant to the provisions of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the days therein mentioned, and referred to in exception (1) above, as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour for any such shop on Saturday shall be 6 p.m. :
And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier, (2) mercer, and (3) hatter within the City of Auckland :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of May, 1918, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier, (2) mercer, and (3) hatter within the City of Auckland shall be closed accordingly.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Booksellers’, Stationers’, and News-agents’ Shops in the City of Wellington, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) bookseller, (2) stationer, and (3) news-agent in the City of Wellington, has been forwarded to me, desiring—
(a.) That all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 10 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) the provisions of this requisition shall not be deemed to extend or apply to evenings in the month of December in each year; (2) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant to the provisions of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the days therein mentioned other than Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in that case the closing-hour for any such shop on Saturday shall be 6 p.m. ; (3) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding each of the following days—Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m. ; and
(b.) That the notice gazetted on the 2nd day of May, 1912, be cancelled in so far as it relates to booksellers and stationers :
And whereas the Wellington City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) bookseller, (2) stationer, and (3) news-agent within the City of Wellington :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of May, 1918, (a) all the shops in each of the trades of (1) bookseller, (2) stationer, and (3) news-agent in the City of Wellington shall be closed accordingly; and (b) the notice gazetted on the 2nd day of May, 1912, fixing the closing-hours of booksellers’, stationers’, and fancy-goods dealers’ shops in the City of Wellington shall be varied accordingly.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers’ and Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of Carterton, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Carterton, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 p.m., on Tuesdays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day, the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 10.30 p.m. ; (2) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 10.30 p.m. ; (3) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding each of the following days—Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration of the Government, or on the request of the Mayor, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, in which case the closing-hour shall be 10.30 p.m. :
And whereas the Carterton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of all the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Carterton :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of May, 1918, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Carterton shall be closed accordingly.
The notice gazetted on the 14th day of September, 1911, fixing the closing-hours of all hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Carterton shall be cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Second-hand Dealers’ Shops in the Borough of Petone, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the second-hand dealers’ shops in the Borough of Petone, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6 p.m. ; Friday, 9 p.m. ; Saturday, 1 p.m. :
And whereas the Petone Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the second-hand dealers’ shops within the Borough of Petone :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of May, 1918, all second-hand dealers’ shops in the Borough of Petone shall be closed as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m.
The notice gazetted on the 9th day of September, 1909, fixing the closing-hours of second-hand dealers’ shops in the Borough of Petone shall be deemed to be cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
