Plant declared to be a Noxious Weed by the Waikouaiti County Council.—Notice No. 1925.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Waikouaiti County Council has, by special order, declared tutsan (Hypericum androsæmum) to be a noxious weed within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its jurisdiction.

Notification of Vacancy of Seat in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Grey.
IN compliance with the provisions of section 99 of the Legislature Act, 1908, I, Frederic William Lang, Speaker of the House of Representatives of New Zealand, hereby notify that the seat of Patrick Charles Webb as a Member of Parliament for the Electoral District of Grey has become vacant under the provisions of section 30 of the said Act, by reason that for one whole session of the General Assembly —to wit, the session beginning on the 9th day of April, 1918, and ending on the 17th day of April, 1918—the said Patrick Charles Webb failed, without permission of the House of Representatives, to give his attendance in the said House.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 26 of 1918.
WAIKATO RIVER.—EROSION OF CLIFF AT NORTH HEAD.

NOTICE is hereby given that since the Gazette Notice to Mariners No. 91, of October, 1917, the erosion at the North Head of Waikato River is still continuing, and the bar and centre of channel has shifted another 450 ft. to the northward. Both beacons have been moved back 450 ft., and bear when in line with one another 64° (N. 49° E. magnetic), practically the same as before.
Charts, &c., affected.—Admiralty Chart No. 2535 (see plan); “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908, Chapter vii, page 220; “New Zealand Almanac,” 1918, page 458.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London; the Harbourmaster, Geelong; and the Master Attendant, Colombo, are published for general information.

ENGLAND.
SOUTH COAST.—LYME BAY.—BEER HEAD.—WRECK SOUTH-EASTWARD OF.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 7¼ miles south-eastward from Beer Head. Lat. 50° 34′ 30″ N., long. 3° 1′ 10″ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of a steamer.
Note.—This wreck, which was sunk in 1917, is incorrectly shown on the latest editions of Charts Nos. 2675B and 1598, and also on some copies of the remaining charts, as being situated in lat. 50° 38′ N., long. 2° 59′ W.
SOUTH COAST.—ROYAL SOVEREIGN LIGHT-VESSEL.—WRECK NORTH-EASTWARD OF.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 4 cables north-eastward from the Royal Sovereign Light-vessel. Lat. 50° 42′ 56″ N., long. 0° 27′ 21″ E.
Description.—Sunken wreck, with mast showing 3 ft. above low water.
CANADA.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.—PORT SIMPSON APPROACH.—BIRNIE ISLAND.—NEW LIGHT ESTABLISHED.
Position.—On rock (4 ft. high) about 30 yards southward of Knox Point. Lat. 54° 35½′ N., long. 130° 27¾′ W.
Abridged description.—(U) Lt. occ., 28 ft., vis. 10 m.
Characteristics:—
Character.—An occulting white light.
Elevation.—28 ft.
Visibility.—10 miles; from 256° (S. 48° W. mag.), through west, to 146° (S. 62° E. mag.).
Structure.—White pyramidal steel frame on cylindrical tank.
Note.—The light is unwatched.
Remarks.—The fixed white light formerly situated about half a cable north-westward from Knox Point has been discontinued and is to be expunged from the charts.
Variation.—28° E.
BAY OF BENGAL.
HUGLI RIVER.—GABTOLA CHANNEL.—LIGHT-VESSEL ESTABLISHED.
Position.—At a distance of 3 miles, 260° (S. 80° W. mag.), from Mundertoca ruined pagoda on Sagar Island. Lat. 21° 48¾′ N., long. 88° 2¾′ E.
Characteristics:—
(a.) Light—
Abridged description.—Lt. F., 44 ft., vis. 12 m. (Experimental.)
Character.—A fixed white light.
Elevation.—44 ft.
Visibility.—12 miles.
CEYLON.
EAST COAST.
Notice is hereby given that the Foul Point light is re-exhibited from Saturday, 9th March, 1918. Latitude 8° 32′ N., longitude 81° 19′ E.
VICTORIA.
HOPETOUN CHANNEL.—PORT OF GEELONG.
Notice is hereby given that on or about 13th March, 1918, the temporary fixed white light exhibited from a barge in lieu of the light from No. 2 beacon will be discontinued.
In lieu thereof No. 2, or the easternmost beacon, having been replaced, the original double-flashing white light will be exhibited therefrom.
PORT PHILLIP ENTRANCE.—QUEENSCLIFF LOW LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTERISTICS.
Position.—Low lighthouse; lat. 38° 16½ S., long. 144° 39½′ E.
New abridged description.—Lt. occ., W.R., ev. 4 secs., vis. 14 and 10 m.
Details.—The fixed light with white and red sectors has been replaced by a light having the undermentioned characteristics:—
Character.—An occulting light with white and red sectors, every four seconds, thus—light 3½ secs., eclipse ½ sec.
Sectors.—Red from 252° (S. 64° W. mag.) to 257° (S. 69° W. mag.); white from 289° (N. 79° W. mag.) to 351° (N. 17° W. mag.); red thence to 32° (N. 24° E. mag.), but obscured by land seaward of Point Nepean from 351° (N. 17° W. mag.) to 11° (N. 3° E. mag.); white thence to 46° (N. 38° E. mag.); red thence to 59° (N. 51° E. mag.). Obscured elsewhere.
Remarks.—The additional flashing red light mentioned in Notice No. 587 of 1917 has been discontinued.
Variation.—8° E.
