Hector Observatory, Bulletin 11.—Time Service.

Hector Observatory,
Wellington, N.Z., 15th April, 1918.
Longitude: 11 h. 39 m. 4·27 s. (= 174° 46′ 4″) east of Greenwich.
Latitude : 41° 17′ 3·8″ south. Height, 418 ft.

It is hereby notified, for general information, that the
Observatory standard mean time clock has been fitted
with contacts by which time-signals are given at every hour
of Greenwich mean time. The signal begins at the beginning
of the hour, and is approximately one second in duration.
The signal is repeated at the first, second, fourth, and fifth
minute of each hour.

The Greenwich mean times and the corresponding New
Zealand mean times that the time-signals begin at are—

There is no signal at three minutes past each hour. The
signals are repeated at every hour of Greenwich mean time.

Time-signals by Telegraphy.

Arrangements can usually be made for the automatic
transmission of the time-signals from the Observatory standard
mean time clock to any telegraph office in New Zealand upon application being made for them to the Observatory.

Time-signals by Wireless Telegraphy.

The time-signals at 22 h. Greenwich mean time have been
automatically sent out by the Awanui Radio Station (longitude 173° 18′ east of Greenwich, latitude 34° 54′ south) on
a wave-length of 2,000 metres.

The Greenwich mean times and the corresponding New
Zealand mean times that the wireless time-signals begin at
are—

There is no signal at three minutes past the hour. Each
time-signal is approximately one second in duration.

The wireless time service is not regularly in operation, so
that when time-signals by wireless telegraphy are required,
application for them should be made to the Observatory.

NEW ZEALAND NAUTICAL ALMANAC.—ERRATA.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 15th April, 1918.

NOTICE is hereby given that the distance from Port
Chalmers to Wanganui, on page 248 of the “ New
Zealand Nautical Almanac,” has been printed in error, and
the number of hours and tenths on the passage between the
two ports at speeds from 6 to 16 miles per hour shown in
the table on page 248 will also be in error.

The correct distance, as given on page 211 of the “ New
Zealand Nautical Almanac,” is 412 miles instead of 533, as
printed in error on page 248, which is the distance from
Bluff to Wanganui.

The following are the hours and tenths at speeds from 6 to
16 miles per hour for the corrected distance, 412 miles, viz.:—

Result of Election of a Member of the Christchurch Fire Board by Fire-insurance Companies.
