With reference to the notification published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 124, of the 2nd August, 1917, relating to the promotion of Captain Charles William Melvill, D.S.O., p.s.c., after the word “Major” delete “dated 8th June, 1917,” and add “(supernumerary), vice Lieutenant-Colonel J. G. Hughes, C.M.G., D.S.O., retired. Dated 31st March, 1917.”

With reference to the notification published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 127, of the 9th August, 1917, relating to the promotion of Lieutenant (temp. Captain) Digby Edward Garrow Cardale, after the word “Captain” delete “Dated 8th June, 1917,” and add “vice Captain Charles William Melvill, D.S.O., p.s.c., promoted. Dated 31st March, 1917.”

Prohibiting the Exportation of Plate and Sheet Glass.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this fourteenth day of January, 1918.

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section forty-seven of the Customs Act, 1913, as extended by section twenty-four of the Regulation of Trade and Commerce Act, 1914, it is enacted that the Governor-General may from time to time, by Order in Council gazetted, prohibit the exportation of any goods the prohibition of the exportation of which is in his opinion necessary in the public interest:

And whereas in the opinion of the Governor-General it is necessary in the public interest that the exportation of plate and sheet glass should be prohibited to the extent and in the manner hereinafter appearing:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section forty-seven of the Customs Act, 1913, and section twenty-four of the Regulation of Trade and Commerce Act, 1914, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of that Dominion, doth hereby prohibit the exportation of plate and sheet glass from the said Dominion save with the consent of the Minister of Customs.

JAPAN.

ENTRANCE TO NAGASAKI HARBOUR, KYUSHU.

Notice is hereby given that Osone lighted buoy, on the shoal Osone, entrance to Nagasaki Harbour, was removed on the 2nd November, 1917.

Position.—About 120 ft., S. 37° W. from the former position.

Depth of Water.—About 8 fathoms at L.W.S.T.

Magnetic Bearings taken from the Buoy.—The summit of Tonosama Yama, S. 28° 55′ W.; Kagenoo Shima Lighthouse, S. 75° 20′ W.; S. end of Nezumi Iwa, N. 27° W.

WEST COAST OF KYUSHU.

Notice is hereby given that the candle-power of the light of Nagasaki Bana Lighthouse, S.W. end of Naga Shima, Naga Shima Strait, has been increased as follows since the 23rd of November, 1917.

Power.—10,000 candles.

NORTH COAST OF HOKKAIDO.—FOG-SIGNAL TO BE ESTABLISHED.

Notice is hereby given that a fog-signal will be established in the premises of Notoro Misaki Lighthouse, Province of Kitami, Hokkaido. It will, during thick or foggy weather, give blasts of 3 seconds duration separated by silent intervals of 40 seconds, on and after the 1st of November, 1917, thus—blast 3 secs., silent interval 40 secs.; blast 3 secs., silent interval 40 secs.

No fog-signal will be given during the months of January and February.

TASMANIA.

TIME-BALL, BATTERY SIGNAL-STATION.

During the period prescribed by the Daylight Saving Act, 1916, or any amendment, for observing the provisions as to daylight saving, the time-ball at the Battery Signal-station will be dropped each day (excepting Sundays) at 1 p.m., Tasmanian clock time (taken from local chronometer), and at 2 p.m., by the electric signal received direct from the Melbourne Observatory.

FIJI.

Notice is hereby given that on the 19th ultimo, in 25° 25′ south, 177° 19′ east (approx.), part of a wreck, the ribs of which were showing plainly, was sighted by a passing schooner.

PANAMA CANAL.

GAS-BUOYS ESTABLISHED.—PANAMA BAY.

On 2nd November, 1917, three gas-buoys were established to mark the outer limits of the defensive sea area. These buoys are cylindrical, with pyramidal superstructure painted white, and each exhibits a flashing white light with the following characteristics: 1 second dark, 1 second light; focal plane, 12 ft.; visible about 6 miles. The locations and bearings of these buoys are as follows:—

Outer Buoy.—5 miles N. 53° E. from northern extremity of Taboguilla Island on the following bearings: Northern extremity Taboguilla Island, 233° true (S.W. 5–16 W. mag.); Tortola Island, right tangent, 268° 45′ true (W. 1–2 S. mag.); San Jose Rock, centre, 299° true (N.W. by W. 13–16 W. mag.).

Taboguilla Buoy.—3,000 ft. due north from northern extremity of Taboguilla Island on the following bearings: Taboguilla Island, left tangent, 175° 30′ true (S. 13–16 E. mag.); Taboga Island, right tangent, 250° true (S.W. by W. 3–4 W. mag.); Tortola Island, right tangent, 306° true (N.W. by W. 1–4 W. mag.).

Inner Buoy.—2 miles N. 53° E. from centre of San Jose Rock on the following bearings: Taboguilla Island, left tangent, 191° true (S. 7–16 W. mag.); San Jose Rock, centre, 233° true (S.W. 5–16 W. mag.); Naos Island, right tangent, 263° 45′ true (S. 15–16 S. mag.).

Public Service Stores Tender Board.—Supply and Delivery of Grass-seed.

Wellington, 10th January, 1918.

TENDERS will be received at the office of the Chairman, General Post Office, Wellington, not later than 4 p.m. on Monday, the 28th January, 1918, for the supply and delivery of 47,943 lb. of mixed grass-seed at the places named in the specification and conditions of tender, which may be obtained at the office of the Secretary to the Board, Post and Telegraph Stores, Wellington.

Redefining Boundaries of the Borough of Gisborne and the County of Cook.

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 20 of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1910, the boundaries of the Borough of Gisborne are hereby defined as set out in the First Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the said borough having been altered by an Order in Council dated the 19th day of November, 1917, made under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, as amended by the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 170, of the 22nd day of November, 1917.

And also, in pursuance of the said section 20 of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1910, the boundaries of the County of Cook affected by the said Order in Council dated the 19th day of November, 1917, are hereby defined as set out in the Second Schedule hereto.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

BOUNDARIES OF THE BOROUGH OF GISBORNE.

ALL that area in the Hawke’s Bay Land District bounded towards the north-east by Sections Nos. 6, 7, 8, and 9 of Part E of Whataupoko No. 6 Block, from the westernmost corner of the said Section No. 6 to the south-western corner of the said Section No. 9 of Part E of Whataupoko No. 6 Block; thence by a right line across a road to the westernmost corner of Section No. 13 of the said Part E of the said
