The Eastern Side of Strickland Street, in the City of Christ-
church, exempted from the Provisions of Section 117 of the
Public Works Act, 1908, subject to a Condition as to the
Building-line.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this thirtieth day
of January, 1918.

Present :

His Excellency the Governor-General in Council.

WHEREAS by subsection one of section one hundred
and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, it is,
inter alia, provided that the said section shall not apply in
any case where the local authority having control of a road
or street by resolution declares that the provisions thereof
shall not apply to any specified road or street, or any
specified part thereof, and such resolution is approved by the
Governor-General in Council :

And whereas by subsection two of section one hundred and
seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, and clause (b) of
subsection one of section thirteen of the Public Works
Amendment Act, 1911, it is provided that such approval
may be either absolute or subject to such conditions with
respect to the building-line as the Governor-General by
Order in Council thinks fit to impose, and may refer to one
or both sides of the road or street :

And whereas the Christchurch City Council, the local
authority having control of the street described in the
Schedule hereto, hereinafter referred to as the said street,
has passed the following resolution—viz., “ That the Christ-
church City Council, being the local authority having
control of Strickland Street in the City of Christchurch,
hereby declares that the provisions of section one hundred
and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, shall not
apply to the east side of the said street ” :

And whereas it is deemed expedient that such resolution
should be approved in so far as it refers to the eastern side
of the said street, subject to the condition hereinafter men-
tioned :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
the powers conferred by the above-in-part-recited Acts, and
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby approve of the
said resolution to the extent hereinbefore mentioned, subject
to the condition that no building, or part of a building,
shall be erected at any time on the eastern side of the said
street, within a distance of thirty-three feet of the centre-
line of the said street.

SCHEDULE.

All that street in the Land District of Canterbury, City of
Christchurch, known as Strickland Street, situated between
South Crescent Road and Colombo Street.

As the said street is more particularly delineated on the
plan marked P.W.D. 43441, deposited in the office of the
Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington
Land District, and thereon coloured blue.

Portion of West Road, Moutere Valley, in the Waimea County,
exempted from the Provisions of Section 117 of the Public
Works Act, 1908.

hundred and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, shall
not apply to that portion of the said road where it passes
through Section 6, Block VII, Motueka Survey District ” :

And whereas it is deemed expedient that such resolution
should be approved :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
the powers conferred by the above-in-part-recited Act, and
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby approve of the
said resolution.

SCHEDULE.

All that portion of West Road, Moutere Valley, in the
Nelson Land District, Waimea County, adjoining or passing
through Sections 6, Square 3, and part 111, Moutere, Block
VII, Motueka Survey District.

As the said portion of road is more particularly delineated
on the plan marked P.W.D. 36218, deposited in the office of
the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wel-
ington Land District, and thereon coloured red.

Vesting the Control of a Reserve in the Hamua Public Hall
Board.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this eleventh
day of February, 1918.

Present :

The Right Honourable W. F. Massey, P.C., presiding
in Council.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto
was by Warrant published in Gazette of the twenty-
seventh day of June, one thousand nine hundred and seven,
permanently reserved for a site for a public hall: And
whereas it is expedient that the control of the said reserve
should be vested in a special Board as hereinafter provided :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion,
and in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon
him by section two of the Public Reserves and Domains
Amendment Act, 1914, doth hereby vest the control of the
reserve described in the Schedule hereto, for the period of
three years from the date hereof (unless previously amended
or revoked under the said Act), in the undermentioned persons,
namely,—

William Rennie Ross,
Messina Guy Bailey,
Humberto John Luoni,
John Barnett, and
Philip Davies,

who are hereby constituted for that purpose a special Board
by the name of the Hamua Public Hall Board (hereinafter
referred to as “ the Board ”), with the powers and subject
to the conditions hereinafter contained, that is to say :—

  1. The Board shall meet for the transaction of business on
    the last Monday in each month at 8 o’clock p.m. at the Hamua
    Public Hall, or at such other time or place as may from time
    to time be fixed by the Board. The first meeting shall be
    held on Monday, the 25th day of February, 1918.

  2. The members of the Board shall at their first meeting,
    and thereafter at the annual meeting hereinafter mentioned,
    elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the
    discussion and shall have an original as well as a casting vote.
    The Chairman shall hold office until the election of his suc-
    cessor.
