The New Electoral Districts for the South Island.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the South Island Representation Commission, appointed under the provisions of the Legislature Act, 1908, have made their report to me under their hands and seals, setting forth the names and boundaries of the electoral districts for the South Island, fixed by them in accordance with the Legislature Act, 1908.

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the twenty-second section of the Legislature Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim the names and boundaries of the electoral districts for the South Island, so fixed by the said Commission, to be those respectively mentioned and set out in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

NELSON.

This district is bounded towards the north and north-west generally by Tasman Bay, from the mouth of the Moutere River to Croiselles Harbour; thence by Croiselles Harbour and Squally Cove to the Waimea County boundary (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); intersecting Section 4, Block VII, Wangamoa Survey District at Whakitenga Bay; thence by the said Waimea County boundary to the Nelson Electoral District boundary (as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 76, of the 27th of September, 1911); thence by the said Nelson Electoral District to the confluence of the Roding and Wairoa Rivers; thence by the Wairoa River to the road forming the eastern boundary of Section 16 on the left bank of the said river in Block XIII, Waimea Survey District; thence by that road, Pig Valley Road, the road passing through Wairoa Gorge and the Church Valley Road to the junction of roads intersecting Section 40, Block XVI, Wai-iti Survey District; thence by the road forming the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 2 of 2 and 79A and intersecting original Sections 79 and 85 to its intersection with the Nelson-Tadmor Railway line; thence in a south-westerly direction by the said railway line to the left bank of the Wai-iti River; thence in a north-easterly direction by the said bank of the said river to the road forming the south-western boundary of Section 154, Block XV, Wai-iti Survey District; thence in a north-westerly direction by that road, Trass’s Valley Road, and the road forming part of the north-eastern boundary of Section 1, Block XI, Sections 1 and 2, Block X, of the said survey district to the northernmost corner of the said Section 2; thence by the eastern boundary of Section 34 to the Wai-iti Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence towards the west generally by the said riding to its junction with the Moutere Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); and thence by the south-western and western boundaries of the said riding to the mouth of the Moutere River, the place of commencement, including D’Urville Island, Stephen’s Island, Rangitoto Islands, Trio Islands, Rabbit Island, Saxton’s Island, Oyster Island, Pepin Island, and Fifeshire Island.

MOTUEKA.

This district is bounded towards the west, north-west, and north by the ocean from the mouth of the Ngakawhau River to Cape Farewell Lighthouse; thence towards the east generally by Golden Bay and Tasman Bay to the Nelson Electoral District, hereinbefore described; thence towards the east generally by the said Nelson Electoral District to the southernmost corner of Motueka Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence towards the south-west by the said riding to the Motueka River, thence towards the south-east generally by the Motueka River to its confluence with the Whangapeka River, thence by the said river to its confluence with the Dart River; thence by that river to Trig. Station P at the summit of the watershed at the headwaters of the said river; thence by a right line due south to the northern boundary of Murchison County (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence towards the north-east generally by the northern boundary of the said county to the north-eastern corner of the aforesaid county; thence towards the south-east and south generally by the eastern and southern boundaries of that county to the junction with the south-eastern boundary of Inangahua County (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence towards the south, north-west, and north generally by the southern, western, and northern boundaries of the said county to the junction with the western boundary of the before-mentioned Murchison County; thence towards the west by the western boundary of the last-mentioned county to the southern boundary of the Motueka Electoral District, as described in New Zealand Gazette No. 76, of the 27th day of September, 1911, north of Bald Hill; thence towards the south-west generally by that electoral district to the place of commencement.

BULLER.

This district is bounded towards the north-west generally by the ocean from the mouth of the Grey River to the mouth of the Ngakawhau River; thence towards the north and south-east generally by the Motueka Electoral District, hereinbefore described, to its junction with the Grey and Waipuna Rivers in Block XV, Mawhera-iti Survey District; thence in a southerly direction by the said river to its junction with the metal horse-track at the confluence of Noble’s Creek and the aforesaid river; thence in a southerly direction by the said track to and crossing Napoleon Hill; thence in a westerly direction by the road to and passing along the northern boundary of Orwell Creek Township; thence by Orwell Creek Road to the junction of roads at the north-eastern corner of Section 106, Block II, Ahaura Survey District; thence in a southerly direction by the said road forming the eastern boundaries of Sections 106 and 11 of the said block and survey district to the Ahaura River; thence generally in a north-westerly direction by the said river to its junction with the foot-track on the south bank of the aforesaid river in Block I, Ahaura Survey District; thence in a southerly direction by the said foot-track to and crossing Callaghan’s Creek; thence by the aforesaid track following the said creek to and crossing Young’s Creek to its junction with a track running in a south-westerly direction to Nelson Creek, and thence in a north-westerly direction by that creek to the Grey River; thence by that river to the north-eastern corner of Brunner Borough (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence by the eastern boundary of the said borough and the eastern boundary of Brunnerton Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917) to its junction with the northern boundary of Maori Creek Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence by the southern and western boundaries of the said Brunnerton Riding to the Grey River, and by that river to the ocean, the place of commencement.

WESTLAND.

This district is bounded towards the north generally by the Buller and Motueka Electoral Districts, hereinbefore described, from the ocean at the mouth of the Grey River to the north-eastern corner of the Grey County (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917) on the Spencer Mountains; thence towards the south-east by the said Grey County boundary to its junction with the Westland County boundary (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence by the eastern and southern boundaries of that county to the ocean; thence towards the north-west generally by the ocean to the mouth of the Grey River, the place of commencement.

WAIRAU.

This district is bounded towards the west and north-west generally by the Motueka and Nelson Electoral Districts, hereinbefore described, from the point due south from Trig. Station P to Croiselles Harbour; thence by Croiselles Harbour, Tasman Bay, Current Basin, the French Pass, Hamilton Bay, Admiralty Bay, to Clay Point; thence towards the north-west and south-east generally by Cook Strait to the mouth of the Wairau River; thence by that river to its confluence with the Opawa River; thence in a westerly direction by that river to the eastern boundary of the Borough of Blenheim (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence by the eastern boundary of the said borough to the north-eastern corner of Section 45, Block XVI, Cloudy Bay Survey District; thence by the eastern boundary of the said Section 45 to and along the eastern and southern boundaries of Section 44 to the north-western corner of Section 42, Block IV, Taylor Pass Survey District; thence by the western boundary of the said Section 42 to the road forming the northern boundary of Section 9, Wither Settlement, of the said block and survey district; thence in a westerly direction by that road to its junction with the western boundary of Omaka Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence in a westerly direction by the said riding to its junction with the south-western corner of Spring Creek Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence by the western boundary of the said riding to its junction with Pelorus Riding (as existing on the 10th day of September, 1917); thence in a north-westerly direction generally by the south-western boundary of the said riding to its junction with the Wairau Electoral District at Mount Riley, as described in New Zealand Gazette No. 76, of 27th September, 1911; thence towards the south-east and south generally by the said Wairau Electoral District to the place of commencement, including all adjacent islands.
