[No. 134

(3.) Every person who is engaged or continues to be engaged in any employment in breach of the foregoing provisions shall be guilty of an offence against these regulations, and shall be liable accordingly.

  1. Every shipowner, member or officer of the Harbour Board, or other person who procures, permits, or consents to the engagement or continued engagement of an alien enemy in breach of these regulations shall be guilty of an offence against these regulations, and shall be liable accordingly; but it shall be a good defence if the defendant proves that he believed on reasonable grounds that the person so engaged was not an alien enemy.

  2. It shall not be necessary for any person holding a license under these regulations to hold in addition thereto a license under the War Regulations of the 10th day of October, 1917, relative to the safety of ships and cargoes.

  3. These regulations shall be read together with and deemed part of the War Regulations of the 10th day of November, 1914.

Revoking War Regulations relating to the Issue of Badges to Officers and Crews of Transports and other Vessels chartered by the New Zealand Government.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this first day of October, 1918.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the twenty-ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the thirteenth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, regulations were made under the authority of the War Regulations Act, 1914, providing for the issue of distinctive badges to the officers and crews employed on transports or other vessels that have been or may be chartered by or are or may be otherwise under the control of the New Zealand Government for any purposes in connection with the present war: And whereas it is now expedient to revoke the said regulations:

Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, do hereby revoke the said regulations made under the War Regulations Act, 1914, by the aforesaid Order in Council of the twenty-ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen.
