Purchase of Sheep-skins by the Government.

WHEREAS for the purposes of the war it is necessary that His Majesty’s Govern-
ment of the United Kingdom should acquire supplies of sheep-skins from New
Zealand: And whereas by an Order in Council of the twenty-ninth day of January,
one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, the export of sheep-skins is prohibited:
And whereas arrangements have been made whereby the Government of New Zealand
will acquire on behalf of His Majesty’s Government of the United Kingdom the supplies
of sheep-skins so required: And whereas the terms and conditions of such acquisition
are set out in a notice dated the thirty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred
and seventeen, and published by the Minister of Agriculture in the New Zealand Gazette
of the first day of February, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, as amended
by a notice dated the twelfth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen,
and published by the Minister of Agriculture in the said Gazette on the sixteenth day
of March, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen: And whereas it is desirable to
revoke the said terms and conditions and to make other provisions in lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, it is hereby notified, for the information of the public and of all
persons concerned, as follows:—

  1. The New Zealand Government (hereinafter referred to as the Government) is
    prepared to purchase sheep-skins for and on behalf of His Majesty’s Government of
    the United Kingdom on the terms and conditions and in accordance with the scheme
    hereinafter set forth, in lieu of the terms, conditions, and scheme set forth in the afore-
    said notices of the thirty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen,
    and the twelfth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, save that
    the said notices shall continue to apply to all sheep-skins which, in pursuance of those
    notices, have been delivered to a Government broker before the day of the publication
    of this present notice in the Gazette.

  2. The persons named in the First Schedule hereto, and hereinafter referred to as
    Government brokers, will act as the agents both of the Government and of the sellers
    in the purchase of sheep-skins by the Government in accordance with the following
    provisions.
