Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Harold Fletcher, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength with effect from
17th January, 1918, and is absorbed into the establishment
with his original rank and seniority therein, viz., Major,
as from 16th October, 1912, vide New Zealand Gazette
No. 82, of the 7th November, 1912.

The Venerable Archdeacon Thomas Samuel Grace, Chaplain
to the Forces, lst Class, retires under the provisions of

seniority-viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 9th August, 1916

2nd Lieutenant Harold Speight, M.C., N.Z. Expeditionary
Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 18th
February, 1918, and it absorbed with his original rank and
seniority-viz., 2nd Lieutenant-as from 24th July, 1916
(vide New Zealand Gazette No. 150, of the 4th October,
1917).
2nd Lieutenant Stephen Francis Newcome Waymouth, N.Z.
Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect
from 9th February, 1918, and is absorbed with his original
rank and seniority-viz., 2nd Lieutenant-as from 29th
July, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 47, of the 15th
March, 1917).

ruary, 1918, and is absorbed with his original rank and

My LORD,-I have the honour to transmit to Your Excel-
lency copies of a notification dated 1st June last, issued from
the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood, prescribing
the manner in which the badge of the Third Class or Com-
panions of the Orders of the Bath, the Star of India, Saint
Michael and Saint George, and the Indian Empire shall
in the future be worn, and of a further notification dated
10th August with regard to the manner in which the cost of
the necessary alterations in the badges of Companions may
be defrayed.
2. I have to explain that, as indicated in the first of these
notices, the change is due to His Majesty's decision that
henceforward the grade of Companion in these four Orders
should rank as senior to that of Commander in other Orders
which are later in date. The effect is to place the rank of
Commander of the Royal Victorian Order lower than that
of the Companionships in question. His Majesty’s com-
mends so far as they affect Companions of the Order of Saint
Michael and Saint George, which may be of more particular
