to be Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, and Vaccination Inspector, for the District of Ormondville, as from the 9th January, 1918.

JOHN HERBERTSON WATERS
to be Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, and Vaccination Inspector, for the District of Pukekohe, as from the 15th January, 1918.

ALEXANDER HERBERT MACKAY
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris, and Vaccination Inspector, for the District of Wellington, as from the 11th January, 1918.

Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of Officers on Active Service with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers on active service with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force (vide List No. 53, N.Z.E.F. Orders).

COMMANDS AND STAFF.

Lieut.-Colonel R. O'H. Livesay, D.S.O., p.s.c., Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, vacates the appointment of G.S.O., I., N.Z. Division, on deputation to the American Forces, and is struck off the strength of the N.Z.E.F. Dated 28th October, 1917.

Major (temp. Lieut.-Colonel) H. M. Wilson, D.S.O., Rifle Brigade, to be G.S.O., I., N.Z. Division, and is taken on the strength of the N.Z.E.F., with the rank of Lieut.-Colonel. Dated 28th October, 1917.

Captain L. A. Newnham, M.C., Middlesex Regiment, relinquishes the appointment of G.S.O., II., N.Z. Division, wounded, and is struck off the N.Z.E.F. Dated 28th October, 1917.

Colonel V. S. Smyth, N.Z.S.C., transferred to British Army, is struck off the strength of the N.Z.E.F. Dated 11th July, 1917.

AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant (Acting-Captain) D. S. Manners, returning to regimental duty, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, N.Z. Training Units and Depots, Egypt, and the acting rank of Captain, and ceases to be seconded. Dated 27th September, 1917.

Captain (Hon. Major) H. W. Smith relinquishes the appointment of O.C. Anzac Mounted Divisional Transport, and ceases to be seconded. Dated 12th July, 1917.

CANTERBURY MOUNTED RIFLES.

2nd Lieutenant E. B. Davison is transferred to N.Z. Machine-gun Corps. Dated 20th September, 1917.

WELLINGTON MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant K. L. Stewart, N.Z.S.C., to be Adjutant, N.Z. Training Units and Depots, Egypt, and is granted the acting rank of Captain and seconded whilst so employed. Dated 27th September, 1917.

NEW ZEALAND CYCLIST CORPS.

The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants. Dated 19th October, 1917:-

NEW ZEALAND FIELD ARTILLERY.

2nd Lieutenant H. E. Speight, M.C., having been declared by a Medical Board to be unfit for general service within twelve months, is seconded under provisions of N.Z.E.F. Reg. 34. Dated 22nd October, 1917.

The undermentioned Lieutenants to be Captains. Dated 20th September, 1917:-

Lieutenant F. J. W. Stallard, M.C., is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst acting as O.C. Heavy Trench Mortar Battery. Dated 20th October, 1917.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 5, of 17th January, 1917, relating to Lieutenant (Acting-Captain) F. F. Reid, for the words "Dated 1st October, 1917," read :"Dated 21st September, 1917."

NEW ZEALAND ENGINEERS.β€”FIELD COMPANIES.

4/431, Corporal C. A. Perkins to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 26th October, 1917.

AUCKLAND REGIMENT.

Lieutenant E. G. Moncrief ceases to be seconded for duty at No. 2 Training Camp, Etaples. Dated 25th October, 1917.

Lieutenant E. A. Harrison ceases to be seconded for duty with a Light Trench Mortar Battery. Dated 17th September, 1917.

Lieutenant J. D. McComish to be Captain, and remains seconded. Dated 1st August, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant E. J. Ferguson is transferred to N.Z. Rifle Brigade. Dated 31st October, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant G. A. Tuck to be Quartermaster, 2nd Battalion. Dated 18th October, 1917.

Captain J. C. McCarthy to command No. 1 N.Z. (Divisional) Employment Company and N.Z. Reinforcement Camp, vice Captain P. Oldham, relinquishing the appointment, and is seconded whilst so employed. Dated 31st October, 1917.

CANTERBURY REGIMENT.

The undermentioned cease to be seconded for duty at N.Z. Command Depot. Dated 5th October, 1917 :-

2nd Lieutenant W. B. Tremewan.

Major N. W. B. B. Thoms, D.S.O., M.C., N.Z.S.C., relinquishes the appointment of Brigade Major, 1st N.Z. Infantry Brigade, and ceases to be seconded. Dated 4th October, 1917.

Lieutenant S. Natusch, M.C., is seconded for duty at N.Z. Convalescent Hospital. Dated 23rd October, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant V. L. Powell is seconded for duty with N.Z. Dental Corps. Dated 16th October, 1917.

Lieutenant (Acting-Captain) A. W. Wellsted relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 3rd Battalion, and the acting rank of Captain. Dated 16th October, 1917.

Lieutenant (Acting-Captain) A. G. Dean relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 1st Battalion, and the acting rank of Captain. Dated 12th October, 1917.

Lieutenant W. F. Brothers relinquishes the appointment of Lewis Gun Officer, 1st Battalion. Dated 2nd October, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant F. W. Matthews to be Quartermaster, 2nd Battalion. Dated 19th October, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant (temp. Captain) J. F. O'Leary relinquishes the temporary rank of Captain on ceasing to act as second in command of a company. Dated 1st September, 1917.

Lieutenant C. R. Rawlings is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst acting as second in command of a company, vice 2nd Lieutenant J. F. O'Leary; dated 1st October, 1917. And relinquishes the temporary rank, wounded; dated 12th October, 1917.

OTAGO REGIMENT.

Lieutenant K. O. De Cent ceases to be seconded for duty at No. 2 Training Camp, Etaples. Dated 25th October, 1917.
