THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Invercargill, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 5th day of July, 1918, separate polls were taken upon proposal to borrow £10,000 and £6,400 respectively for the above purposes, and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposals was as follows :—

Electric Light and Power, £10,000 : For the proposal, 108 ; against the proposal, 173 ; informal, 3.

Public Works, £6,400 : For the proposal, 108 ; against the proposal, 172 ; informal, 5.

I declare both the proposals to be lost.

WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.

Upokongaro Bridge Loan of £2,500.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Mangawhero Riding of the County of Wanganui taken on the 10th day of July, 1918, on the proposal of the Wanganui County Council to borrow the sum of £2,500 for the purpose of erecting a concrete bridge at Upokongaro, Makirikiri, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 40, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 13.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Constitution of a Special Road District in terms of Section 50 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1913.

PURSUANT to section 50 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1913, and the regulations thereunder, I, David Henry Guthrie, the Minister of Lands, do hereby, on the recommendation of the Land Board of the Wellington Land District, declare the lands referred to in the Schedule hereto to be a special district for the purposes of the said section; and such district shall be known as the Konini Special Road District.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.

SECTIONS 3, 4, and 5, Block VII, Kaitieke Survey District.

Notifying Land in the Southland Land District subject to the Land for Settlements Act, 1908.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and its amendments, I hereby notify that the undermentioned Crown land, being the land known as the Stalker Settlement, which has been acquired under the said Acts, is subject to the said Acts as from 30th April, 1918.

SCHEDULE.

STALKER SETTLEMENT.

ALL that area in the Southland Land District, containing by admeasurement 501 acres 1 rood 2 perches, more or less, situated in Block XI, Oteramika Hundred, being Sections 1s to 10s (both inclusive), Stalker Settlement, and bounded as follows : Towards the north by Lot 22, L.T. plan No. 172, by the crossing of a public road, by Lot 21, L.T. plan No. 172 aforesaid, Section 120E, Edendale Settlement, and Lot 19, L.T. plan No. 172 aforesaid, 14930·7 links ; towards the east generally by Lots 1 and 2, L.T. plan No. 878, Block XVI, Oteramika Hundred, and by Section 121E, Edendale Settlement, 328 links, 2709·7 links, 822·9 links, and 1373·4 links ; towards the south generally by Section 121E, Edendale Settlement aforesaid, by terminus of public road, by public road, and crossing of public road, 4425·9 links, 124·1 links, and 7024·5 links ; and towards the west by Section 115E, Edendale Settlement, 3719·6 links, to the point of commencement : be all the aforesaid linkages more or less, and intersected by a public road. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 21/48, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged pink.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Fishmongers’ Shops in the City of Wellington, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the fishmongers’ shops in the City of Wellington, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 p.m., with the following exceptions—(a) The working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m. ; and (b) the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday, when the closing-hour shall be 10.30 p.m. :

And whereas the Wellington City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the fishmongers’ shops in the City of Wellington :

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 29th day of July, 1918, all the fishmongers’ shops in the City of Wellington shall be closed accordingly.
