THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Spring Creek River Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

SPRING CREEK RIVER BOARD.
Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise Loan.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Spring Creek River Board District was taken on the 4th day of December, 1917, on the proposal of the Spring Creek River Board to borrow the sum of £1,000 for the purpose of paying off the Board’s overdraft incurred repairing flood damage in 1916.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 64, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 1.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

EUREKA DRAINAGE BOARD.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan of £1,200.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers in that portion of the Eureka Drainage District known as the Newstead Special Rating Area, taken on the 13th day of December, 1917, upon the proposal of the Eureka Drainage Board to borrow the sum of £1,200 for the purpose of constructing, widening, and deepening drains in the Newstead Special Rating Area, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 19, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 0.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
IN pursuance of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Mangapiko Riding of the Waipa County was taken on the 6th day of December, 1917, upon the proposal of the Waipa County Council to raise a special loan of £3,000 for the purpose of metalling roads in the Mangapiko Riding of the Waipa County for the first time.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 65, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 14.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

IN pursuance of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Hamilton Riding of the Waipa County was taken on the 6th day of December, 1917, upon the proposal of the Waipa County Council to raise a special loan of £4,000 for the purpose of metalling roads in the Hamilton Riding of the Waipa County for the first time.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 110, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 27.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

STRATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Special Loan of £15,000.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Stratford taken on the 22nd day of December, 1917, on the proposal of the Stratford Borough Council to borrow the sum of £15,000 for the purpose of reconstructing with concrete, and such other necessary materials as the Council shall think fit, the undermentioned streets or portions of streets within the Borough of Stratford, viz.:
Broadway for its entire length, the portions of Fenton Street and Regan Street lying between Juliet Street and Broadway, and the portion of Juliet Street lying between Regan Street and Fenton Street;
the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 182, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 81; informal vote, 1.
I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

Amending the Rotorua Town By-laws, 1909.
WHEREAS by section 344 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, Borough Councils are empowered from time to time to make by-laws, inter alia, for the following purposes:—
(1.) The good rule and government of the borough;
(2.) Regulating, controlling, or prohibiting any act, matter, or thing usually the subject of municipal regulation, control, or prohibition;
(3.) Conserving public health, safety, and convenience, and preventing and abating nuisances;
(4.) To repeal or alter a by-law:
And whereas by section 4 of the Rotorua Town Act, 1907, all such powers of Borough Councils were conferred on the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts in respect of the Town of Rotorua:
And whereas it is expedient to make such by-laws accordingly with respect to the said town:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the hereinbefore-recited powers, the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts doth hereby amend the by-laws made by the said Department on the 2nd day of December, 1909, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 8th day of December, 1909, by making the following revocations, alterations, and additions to the said by-laws; and doth hereby declare that the said amendments shall take effect and come into force on the 21st day of January, 1918.
AMENDMENTS.
CLAUSE 6 of Part X—Public Buildings—is hereby amended by inserting the words “Good Friday” and “Christmas Day” after the word “Sunday.”
Part X is hereby amended by the addition of the following new clause:—
12A. Offence for Licensee, &c., to allow Persons to stand in Passages, &c.—It shall be an offence for any licensee or person or persons for the time being in charge of any licensed
