(Referred to in para. 169).

REPAIR OF FIELD RANGE-FINDERS.

  1. FIELD range-finders in possession of units will be periodically tested in accordance with Musketry Regulations, Part I, and Regulations for Ordnance Services, Part I.

  2. When instruments are found to require repairs or adjustments which cannot be carried out by the unit (see handbook of the instrument), an indent on G 10, showing the nature of the repairs required, will be forwarded to the D. of E. & O.S., who will, if possible, arrange for the work to be carried out locally. The registered numbers of instruments will be quoted on all vouchers and demands.

  3. Instruments despatched either to or from an Ordnance depot will be very carefully packed. The instruments in their cases will be packed with tow, hay, or other suitable material, in a wooden box. The box should be marked conspicuously “Glass with care,” and should contain a packing-note (F G 70) duly completed.

General Instructions.—For cleaning the metal parts only soft-soap free from grit and oil may be used. Unless specifically ordered, no material of a gritty or cutting nature may be used on any pretence.
