Manaiā River; and for the purposes of such public work
the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be
taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of
the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-
office at Coromandel, and is there open for inspection; and
that all persons affected by the execution of the said public
work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have
any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said
public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the
same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days
from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of
Public Works at Wellington.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken:
3 roods 0·6 perch.
Portion of Manaiā 1B, 2B, D No. 2, Block XIII, Coromandel
Survey District (S.O. 19410).

In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 41828,
deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works
at Wellington, in the Wellington Provincial District, and
thereon coloured red.

War Legislation Amendment Act, 1916.—Modification of
Fifth Schedule to Education Act, 1914 (Staffs of Public
Schools).

IN pursuance of the provisions of section 15 of the War
Legislation Amendment Act, 1916, I, Josiah Alfred
Hanan, Minister of Education, do hereby make the altera-
tions as shown in the Schedule hereto, in the modifications
of the provisions of the Fifth Schedule to the Education Act,
1914, made by me on the 25th August, 1916. Such altera-
tions shall be deemed to have been in operation as from
the 1st January, 1917.

SCHEDULE.

(a.) IN reckoning the quarter, or two quarters, or three
quarters immediately preceding for the purposes of Table C,
no account shall be taken of any quarter if it is shown to
the satisfaction of the Minister of Education, on the certifi-
cate of the District Health Officer, that an infectious disease
of an epidemic character has been locally prevalent during
that quarter to the extent of affecting 10 per cent. or more
of the children in the school or department.

(b.) The figures “120” in column (4) of Table C as modi-
fied on the 25th August, 1916, are hereby altered to read
“110.”

THE tender of the Nightcaps Coal Company (Limited),
Invercargill, has been accepted for the supply and
delivery of 18,000 tons screened Nightcaps coal for the New
Zealand Government Railways during the year ending 31st
March, 1918, at 10s. per ton, delivered on railway-wagons at
Nightcaps.

on Wednesday, the 20th June, 1917, for the supply and
delivery of bicycle, motor-cycle, and motor-car covers and
tubes, and band tires for motor-lorries.

Department, Wellington; the District Storekeeper, Post and
Telegraph Department, Christchurch; or at the offices of
the Telegraph Engineers at Auckland and Dunedin.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 39, of the 5th
instant, the Auckland Harbour Board have notified
that a new beacon has been erected on the reef off Brown’s
Island to take the place of the one which was knocked down
a few days ago by some unknown vessel.
