Notice to Mariners.—No. 37 of 1917.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—ERECTION OF BEACON OFF ST. MARY’S BAY.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 7th May, 1917.

THE Auckland Harbour Board have notified that on and after 9th May, 1917, two single pile beacons surmounted by staff and cage, the whole painted black, will be displayed in the following positions off St. Mary’s Bay, Ponsonby:—

Eastern Beacon.—Trig. Station, Stokes Point, 338½° (N. 37° W. magnetic); Trig. Station, Watchman Island, 276½° (S. 81° W. magnetic).

Western Beacon.—Trig. Station, Stokes Point, 15½° (north magnetic); Trig. Station, Watchman Island, 266° (S. 80° W. magnetic).

Charts, &c., affected.—Admiralty Charts Nos. 2546, 1970, and 1896; “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908, Chapter ii, page 42; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac, 1917,” plan facing page 244.

SOUTH-EAST COAST.—KAP SING MUN APPROACH.—THE BROTHERS.—WRECK EASTWARD OF.

Position (approximate).—At a distance of about one mile eastward from the northern extremity of Motce (East Brother) Island. Lat. 22° 20′ 30″ N., long. 114° E.

Description.—Sunken wreck of the French steamer “American,” with mast showing above water.

JAPAN.

INLAND SEA.—SHIMONOSEKI STRAIT APPROACH.—WRECK.—GAS-BUOY ESTABLISHED.

A green conical gas-buoy showing, 10 ft. above the water, an occulting green light every 8 seconds—thus, light 4 seconds,
