D’URVILLE ROCK BEACON SWEPT AWAY.

NOTICE is hereby given that the D’Urville Rock Beacon
has been swept away during a recent heavy gale.
A further notice will be issued when the beacon has been
re-erected.

Land Surveyors Examination, March, 1917, Australia and
New Zealand.

The Surveyors Board of New Zealand,
Wellington, 1st March, 1917.

IT is hereby notified for general information that the
Surveyors Board, in conjunction with the Australian
Surveyors Boards, will conduct an examination of candi-
dates for licenses to survey, commencing at 10 a.m. on
Monday, 26th March, 1917, at Wellington.

Candidates are notified that their applications, on the
proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not
later than noon on the 16th March, and that the examina-
tion fee of £1 1s. must be paid, at least seven days before
the date of the examination, to the Secretary of the Board,
from whom examination regulations, application forms, and
other particulars may be obtained.

The amount of postage must also be remitted if plans and
field-books are desired to be returned.

Applications invited for the Position of Matron, Special School
for Boys, Education Department, Otekaie.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 28th February, 1917.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up
till noon on the 12th March, 1917, for the position of
Matron, Special School for Boys, Education Department,
Otekaie.

  1. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtain-
    able at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secre-
    tary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and
    must embrace a statement of education and experience,
    particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants must not be over forty years of age, and
    must have had practical experience in an institution for
    children. Training in nursing will be regarded as a recom-
    mendation, provided that the applicant is qualified in other
    directions.

  3. Subject to the general supervision of the Principal of
    the school, the Matron shall be in charge of—
    (a.) General household management, and all matters re-
    lating to the domestic affairs of the school :
    (b.) The female domestic staff :
    (c.) The feeding, clothing, and general welfare of all the
    children, including attendance and care of sick
    children :
    (d.) All stores, including clothing, groceries, and domestic
    supplies generally.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the
Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division.
Salary, £135 per annum, maximum £150 ; less £30 for board
and quarters.
