said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby authorize the Minister of Public Works to execute the work; and I do hereby declare that one-half of the cost thereof shall be borne by the local authorities hereinafter mentioned in the following proportions—namely, the Taumarunui Borough Council to pay fifty per centum, and the Kaitieke County Council to pay fifty per centum of such half cost respectively; and I do hereby further direct that any contributions hereby required to be made as aforesaid by the said Taumarunui Borough and Kaitieke County Councils respectively shall be paid from time to time out of the funds of the said Councils within a period of thirty days after demand in writing made by or on behalf of the Minister of Public Works, and all such payments shall be made to the credit of the Public Account, and bank receipts sent to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

That bridge in the Auckland and Wellington Land Districts, Taumarunui Borough and Kaitieke County, extending across the Wanganui River opposite the western end of the Esplanade, Taumarunui, to Mangawhero Valley Road in the Kaitieke County. As the site of the said bridge is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 40475, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, and thereon coloured pink.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-ninth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen.

Amendment to the Regulations under the Public Service Act, 1912.

IN pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred on him by the Public Service Act, 1912 (hereinafter called “the said Act”), the Commissioner, with the approval of the Governor in Council, doth hereby revoke clause two hundred and nine of the regulations made under the said Act on the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, as amended by notices published in the Gazette of the twenty-eighth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, and the eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the regulation set forth in the Schedule hereto. The regulation hereby made shall come into force on the date of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

  1. (1.) WHERE any officer performs the duties of a position of a higher class or grade than that in which he is classified, he shall be granted, on the approval of the Commissioner, during the period in excess of three months for which he continues to perform the duties of such higher position, payment in addition to salary at a rate equal to the difference between his salary and the minimum salary of the class immediately above that in which he is classified, or at such higher rate as the Commissioner thinks fit, but in no case at a rate less than £10 per annum.

(2.) No officer shall, without the previous consent of the Commissioner, be assigned for a longer period than two months any work of a class or grade higher than that of the class or grade in which such officer is classified.

(3.) If an officer who is performing the duties of a higher class or grade as aforesaid goes on ordinary leave, such leave shall not be deemed to interrupt the period of performance of such duties if the officer goes back to the same or similar higher duties on his return from leave. No payment in addition to his ordinary salary shall, however, be made to the officer in respect of the period during which he is on leave.
