place of commencement.

KOWAI COUNTY.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District, the boundaries
of which are as follows: Commencing at a point in the
middle of the River Waipara, the said point being in line
with the western boundary-line of Rural, Section 29653,
Block XIII, Waipara Survey District; thence towards the
west generally by a right line to and thence by the summit
of the range east of Bird's Eye Creek, and the summit of the
range to Mount Grey; thence by the summit of the range
to the road at the northernmost corner of Rural Section
No. 34744; thence by the road forming the eastern boundaries
of Rural Sections Nos. 34744, 34719, and 34532, and the
south-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section, and
by Rural Section No. 33532 to the Makerikeri River; thence
by that river to the northernmost corner of Rural Section
No. 33378; thence by a right line to the north-eastern corner
of Rural Section No. 5654; thence by a right line to the
south-western corner of Rural Section No. 8820; thence by
Boundary Road to the Christchurch-Amberley Railway line;
thence by the railway-line to the middle of the River Ashley;
thence towards the south by the Rangiora County hereinbefore
described to the ocean; thence towards the east by the
ocean to the middle of the River Waipara; and towards
the east and north by a line along the middle of the River
Waipara to the point of commencement.

ASHLEY COUNTY.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded
towards the south and west by a line along the middle of the
Ashley River from the Christchurch-Amberley Railway line
to its source; thence towards the north-west by a right line
to Block Hill; thence towards the north-east by a right line
from Block Hill to the source of the south branch of the
River Waipara; thence by a line along the middle of that
river to a point in line with the western boundary-line of
Rural Section 29653, Block XIII, Waipara Survey District;
thence towards the east generally by Kowai County herein-
before described to the place of commencement.

Honourable Arthur William de Brito Savile,
Earl of Liverpool, Knight Grand Cross of the
Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Member of the Royal Victorian
Order, Governor-General and Commander-in-

under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the
Government House at Wellington, this thirteenth

Revoking the Naturalization of Hugo Karl Albert Seewald.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this seventeenth
day of December, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING
IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the certificate of naturalization issued to Hugo
Karl Albert Seewald by the Governor-General of the
Commonwealth of Australia on the second day of May, 1904,
was endorsed in New Zealand under the Aliens Act, 1908, on
the seventeenth day of September, 1914:

And whereas the Governor-General in Council is satisfied
that it is expedient for the welfare of the Realm to revoke
the naturalization of the said Hugo Karl Albert Seewald:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
and authorities vested in him by the Revocation of Natural-
ization Act, 1917, His Excellency the Governor-General of the
Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth
hereby declare that the naturalization of the said Hugo Karl
Albert Seewald shall be revoked, and that the said Hugo
Karl Albert Seewald shall cease to be a British subject
naturalized in New Zealand as from the first day of January,
1918.

Amended Fees under the Tobacco Act.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this seventeenth
day of December, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING
IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the nineteenth
day of December, one thousand nine hundred and
seven, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the ninth
day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eight, a
certain regulation was made under the Tobacco Act Amend-
ment Act, 1896, imposing a scale of fees to be paid for warrants
to make cigarettes by hand: And whereas it is expedient
to revoke the said regulation, and to make a regulation in
lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
the powers and authorities conferred upon him by the Tobacco
Act, 1908, as amended by the Finance Act, 1917, and of all
other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf,
and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Ex-
ecutive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke
the said regulation made on the nineteenth day of December,
one thousand nine hundred and seven, and doth make the
following regulation in lieu thereof; and doth order that this
regulation shall come into force on the first day of January,
one thousand nine hundred and eighteen.

REGULATION.

  1. (1.) THE scale of fees payable under subsection (3) of
    section 28 of the Tobacco Act, 1908, as amended by sec-
    tion 51 of the Finance Act, 1917, shall be as follows :-
    For an annual warrant to make cigarettes where the Β£
    number of cigarettes intended to be made as
    specified in the declaration of the manufacturer
    made in accordance with Schedule B to the regu-
    lations made on the eleventh day of January,
    1897, under the Tobacco Act Amendment Act,
    1896, and gazetted on the twenty-eighth day of
    January then instant does not exceed 25,000
    Where the number of cigarettes intended to be made 10
    exceeds 25,000 but does not exceed 30,000
    Where the number of cigarettes to be made exceeds 12
    30,000, for every 5,000 cigarettes or fraction thereof 2
    intended to be made.
    (2.) No further warrant shall be issued in the event of the
    quantity stated in any annual warrant being completed.

Certain Species of Birds indigenous to New Zealand not to be
deemed protected.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this seventeenth
day of December, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING
IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, as
amended by the Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1910,
His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New
Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby sus-
pend the operation of section ten of the said Animals Protec-
tion Amendment Act, 1910, for the period ending on the
thirty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and
eighteen, with respect to the species of birds indigenous to
New Zealand mentioned in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

HAWKS of all species.
Kea, or mountain parrot.
Shags of the following species: Black shag (Phalocrocorax sulcirostris);
white-throated shag (Phalocrocorax brevirostris);
sea-shag (Phalocrocorax nova-hollandice, Phalocrocorax carbo).
