Lands in Westland Land District forfeited.

NOTICE is hereby given that the leases and licenses of the undermentioned lands having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Westland Land Board, the said lands have thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Pastoral Land in Hauraki Mining District, Auckland Land District, for License by Discharged Soldiers.

Auckland, 10th December, 1917.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned land is open for license by discharged soldiers under the regulations for the occupation of pastoral land in the Hauraki Mining District, and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 28th January, 1918.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, 30th January, 1918, at 10 o’clock a.m.; but if any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.

The ballot will be held on the same day as the examination at 2.30 o’clock p.m.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—THAMES COUNTY.—OHINEMURI SURVEY DISTRICT.

Second-class Land.

SECTION 4, Block II: Area, 953 acres; capital value, £596; half-yearly rent, £14 18s.

Altitude, 1,000 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Rough hilly and broken land; about 200 acres old kauri-workings, in fern and second growth; balance mixed forest comprising tawa, towai, birch, miro, hinau, rata, kohekohe, &c., with dense undergrowth of supplejack, punga, kiekie, rangiora, &c. Clay soil, of rather poor quality. Distant about ten miles from Hikutaia Railway-station, about four miles of which is by metalled road, about five miles by bridle-track, the balance being unformed.

ABSTRACT OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LICENSE.

  1. Term of license, twenty-one years, with a conditional right of renewal and right to acquire the freehold of the surface only, with no right to acquire possession of minerals, metals, or valuable stone existing under the area.

  2. Rent payable in advance on 1st March and 1st September in each year.

  3. Applicants to be seventeen years of age and upwards.

  4. Applicants to furnish statutory declaration with applications, and, on being declared successful, deposit £1 1s. license fee and a half-year’s rent. Rent for the broken period between date of lease and 1st March or 1st September following is also payable.

  5. Applications made on the same day are deemed to be simultaneous.

  6. Successful applicants to execute license within thirty days after being notified that it is ready for signature.

  7. Residence is to commence within four years in bush land or swamp land, and within one year in open or partly open land, and to be continuous for a period of ten years.

  8. Improvements.—Licensee is required to improve the land within one year to the value of 10 per cent. of the price; within two years, to the value of another 10 per cent. of the price; and thereafter, but within six years, to the value of another 10 per cent. of the price. In addition to the foregoing, and within six years, improvements are also to be effected to the value of £1 for every acre of first-class land, and 10s. for every acre of second-class land.

  9. Licensee to pay all rates, taxes, and assessments.

  10. Licensee may not transfer within ten years from date of license, except with consent.

  11. Licensee has no right to dispose of sawmilling timber.

  12. The right is reserved to the Crown to grant licenses to cut timber and other rights appurtenant thereto, and free right of access must be allowed to the holders of such licenses and their employees.

  13. Holders of miners’ rights have right to prospect.

  14. The Warden may grant mining privileges subject to compensation for improvements only.

  15. The licensee has no claim to compensation on account of any injury to stock resulting from sawmilling or mining operations.

  16. License is liable to forfeiture if conditions are violated.

Application forms and plans containing full particulars, and copies of the regulations for the occupation of pastoral land within the Hauraki Mining District, can be obtained from the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland.

Land in the Wellington Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 10th December, 1917.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Thursday, the 14th February, 1918.

The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for thirty-three years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years, and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Thursday, 28th February, 1918.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
