Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the aforesaid
powers and authorities, doth hereby declare that it is his
intention to grant in fee-simple the area of Crown land
described in the First Schedule hereto in exchange for the
fee-simple of the area of land described in the Second
Schedule, upon payment by the owner thereof of the sum
of money hereinbefore referred to by way of equality of
exchange.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
DESCRIPTION OF CROWN LAND AUTHORIZED TO BE
EXCHANGED.
All that area in the Hawke's Bay Land District, containing
by admeasurement an estimated area of 100 acres, more or
less, being Section 2, Block XII, Mohaka Survey District.
As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S.
16/101, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands
and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
DESCRIPTION OF LANDS TO BE OBTAINED IN EXCHANGE
THEREFOR.
All those severed areas in the Hawke's Bay Land District,
containing by admeasurement 34 perches, 5 perches, and
10 acres 1 rood 18 perches, more or less, between the old
and new Napier-Wairoa Roads, Block XII, Mohaka Survey
District, being parts of Block 72, Mohaka Crown-grant District.
As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and
S. 16/101, deposited in the Head Office, Department of
Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered green.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, this tenth day of December, one thou-
sand nine hundred and seventeen.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection by
Discharged Soldiers on Optional System.
LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur
William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-
General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received
the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as pro-
vided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act,
do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule
hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged
soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers
on Monday, the twenty-eighth day of January, one thousand
nine hundred and eighteen; and also that the lands mentioned
in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be
purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right
of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix
the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied,
or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do
declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased
under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908,
and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and
amendments.
SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Waitemata County.—Waipareira Parish.
SECTION 211 : Area, 19 acres 3 roods. Capital value, £180.
Occupation with right of purchase : Half-yearly rent, £4 10s.
Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent, £3 12s.
Altitude, 40 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Fern and manuka
country, undulating, about three-fourths ploughable. Brown
soil, of fair quality, on clay subsoil ; fairly watered by swampy
stream. Distant about two and a half miles from Swanson
by good cart-road.
Section 212 : Area, 16 acres 3 roods 34 perches. Capital
value, £170. Occupation with right of purchase : Half-
yearly rent, £4 5s. Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent,
£3 8s.
Altitude, 100ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Undulating
land, nearly all ploughable, covered with short fern and
manuka. Brown soil, of fair quality, on clay subsoil; poorly
watered by swampy gullies. Distant about two miles from
Swanson by good formed road.
Section 226 : Area, 11 acres 0 roods 7 perches. Capital
value, £130. Occupation with right of purchase : Half-
yearly rent, £3 5s. Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent,
£2 12s.
Altitude, 50 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land,
all ploughable, covered with light manuka and fern. Grey
soil, of medium quality, on clay subsoil; fairly watered by
swampy stream. Distant about two miles from Swanson
by good cart-road.
Waitemata County.—Paremoneo Parish.
Section 295 : Area, 29 acres 0 roods 3 perches. Capital
value, £90. Occupation with right of purchase : Half-yearly
rent, £2 5s. Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent, £1 16s.
Altitude, 100 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Undulating
to broken fern and manuka country, ploughable in parts.
Soil brown loam, of poor quality, on clay subsoil; water can
only be obtained by sinking. Distant about three and a
half miles from Albany by formed road.
Section 307 : Area, 28 acres 1 rood 36 perches. Capital
value, £170. Occupation with right of purchase : Half-yearly
rent, £4 5s. Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent, £3 8s.
Undulating land, covered with light manuka scrub, partly
burnt, about one-third ploughable. Soil brown loam, fair
to medium in quality, on sandstone formation; not watered,
but water can be obtained by sinking. Distant about six
miles from Takapuna by coach-road partly metalled.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Tauranga County.—Te Puna Parish.
Section 234 : Area, 261 acres 3 roods. Capital value, £230.
Occupation with right of purchase : Half-yearly rent, £5 15s.
Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent, £4 12s.
Altitude, 60 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land,
with broken country on south side, covered with fern and
manuka scrub. Fair soil, of a sandy nature, on pumice
formation; well watered by Ruangarara Stream. Distant
about seven miles from Tauranga by formed road, except
the last seven chains, which is unformed.
Bay of Islands County.—Kawakawa Survey District.
Section 4, Block XV : Area, 116 acres 3 roods 16 perches.
Capital value, £130. Occupation with right of purchase :
Half-yearly rent, £3 5s. Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent,
£2 12s.
Altitude, 60 ft. to 220 ft. above sea-level. A few acres
swamp; balance level, undulating, and hilly land, covered
with fern and scrub. Soil mostly of inferior second-class
quality, on clay subsoil; well watered by streams. Distant
about two miles from Kawakawa Railway-station by formed
cart-road.
Rotorua and Whakatane Counties.—Rotoma Survey District.
Section 1, Block III : Area, 1,046 acres 2 roods. Capital
value, £1,050. Occupation with right of purchase : Half-
yearly rent, £23 5s. Renewable lease : Half-yearly rent, £21.
Altitude, 300 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Undulating
land, intersected by broken gullies, running north and south.
All covered with fern and scrub. Fair soil, of a sandy nature,
on pumice formation ; fairly well watered by Whakahau-
papa Stream. Distant about twelve miles from Matata by
good formed road. The East Coast Railway is about seven
miles north of section, and has been constructed to that
point. About 160 chains of fencing has been erected by
adjoining owner, who will be entitled to recover half the value
from incoming tenant.

General, this tenth day of December, one thousand
nine hundred and seventeen.

Vesting the Control of a Scenic Reserve in the Orari Gorge
Scenic Board under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908.
LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon him by section thirteen of the Scenery
Preservation Act, 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General
of the Dominion of New Zealand doth hereby vest the control
of the reserve described in the Schedule below (being land
reserved under the said Act), for the period of three years
from the date hereof (unless previously altered or revoked
under the said Act), in the undermentioned persons, namely,—
ARTHUR JOHN BLAKISTON,
WILLIAM McLEOD,
JAMES BURT,
ROBERT YATES, and
WILLIAM ALEXANDER HEWSON,
who are hereby constituted for that purpose a special Board
by the name of the Orari Gorge Scenic Board (herein referred
