HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 48 of the Land Act, 1908, approved of meetings of the Nelson Land Board being held at the principal Land Office, Nelson, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Thursday, 10th January, 14th February, 14th March, 11th April, 9th May, 13th June, 11th July, 8th August, 12th September, 10th October, 14th November, and 12th December during the year 1918.

Meetings of Marlborough Land Board.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 48 of the Land Act, 1908, approved of meetings of the Marlborough Land Board being held during the year 1918 at the principal Land Office, Blenheim, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, 15th January, 12th February, 12th March, 9th April, 14th May, 11th June, 9th July, 13th August, 10th September, 15th October, 12th November, and 10th December.

Meetings of Otago Land Board.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 48 of the Land Act, 1908, approved of meetings of the Otago Land Board being held at the principal Land Office, Dunedin, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Wednesday, 9th January, 13th February, 13th March, 10th April, 8th May, 12th June, 10th July, 14th August, 11th September, 9th October, 13th November, and 11th December during the year 1918.

Meetings of Southland Land Board.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 48 of the Land Act, 1908, approved of meetings of the Southland Board being held at the principal Land Office, Invercargill, at 10.45 o’clock a.m. on Thursday, 24th January, 28th February, 21st March, 25th April, 23rd May, 27th June, 25th July, 22nd August, 26th September, 24th October, 21st November, and 19th December during the year 1918.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Fancy-goods Shops in the Borough of Hamilton, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the fancy-goods shops in the Borough of Hamilton, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough should be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 p.m., with the following exceptions—(a) should the occupier of any fancy-goods shop in the Borough of Hamilton observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day, the closing-hour for any such shop on Wednesday shall be 6 p.m.; (b) the Saturday preceding Christmas Eve and the Saturday preceding New Year’s Eve, when there shall be no closing-hour; and (c) Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when there shall be no closing-hour:

And whereas the Hamilton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the fancy-goods shops within the Borough of Hamilton:

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 5th day of December, 1917, all fancy-goods shops within the Borough of Hamilton shall be closed accordingly.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of all Shops in the Mangaweka Town District, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Mangaweka Town District, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in the district should be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the exception of the working-day preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, when the hour of closing shall be 11 p.m.:

And whereas the Mangaweka Town Board has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Town District of Mangaweka:

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 5th day of December, 1917, all shops within the Mangaweka Town District shall be closed accordingly.

Award of Long-service and Good-conduct Medal.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve, in accordance with paragraph 14, Appendix IX, Regulations for the Military Forces of New Zealand, 1913, of the award of the Long-service and Good-conduct Medal to

Importation of Wheat, Flour, Bran, and Pollard.

Customs Department,
Wellington, 27th November, 1917.

IT is hereby notified for general information that applications for permits to import wheat, flour, bran, and pollard during the months of January and February, 1918, must be posted so as to reach the office of the Comptroller of Customs, Wellington, on or before 20th December next.

Applications should state the port at which the goods are to be landed, the quantities of each commodity applied for, and the approximate time of importation.

It should be understood that all wheat imported must be absolutely free from weevil.

Articles prohibited to be imported to the United Kingdom.

IT is notified for general information that a Proclamation has been issued by the Imperial Government prohibiting the importation to the United Kingdom, except under license of the Board of Trade, of the undermentioned goods:—

Abrasive wheels.
Binder or reaper twine.
Brass rod and brass wire.
Cycles other than motor-cycles.
Electric meters.
Electrical motors over one-half horse-power.
Electric hand lamps and torches.
Magnetos.
Measuring tapes and rules of all descriptions, including verniers.
Micrometers.
Pens, penholders, pencils, and all other stationery of which importation is not already prohibited.
Vegetables in brine.

This list supplements the list dated 9th July, 1917, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of 12th July, 1917.
