CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Lands in Otago Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Dunedin, 23rd October, 1917.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 10th December, 1917.

The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, 12th December, 1917, at 10 o’clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

SCHEDULE.

OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Town of Alexandra.

SECTION 8, Block XXXVII : Area, 10 acres 3 roods 12 perches; capital value, £110; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £5 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 4s.

Weighted with £3 5s., valuation for fencing.

Open level land, with a light soil on a shingle subsoil; formerly part of Alexandra Racecourse. Situated within a few chains of Alexandra Railway-station. Altitude, about 450 ft. above sea-level.

Waikouaiti County.—North Harbour and Blueskin Survey District.

Section 68, Block VII : Area, 38 acres 2 roods 21 perches; capital value, £200; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £10; half-yearly rent on lease, £4.

Weighted with £18, valuation for fencing.

Fairly level land, covered with light manuka scrub; would make good grazing-land if cleared. The soil is a light loam, on a clay formation; stony in places; watered by springs. Altitude, 500 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Situated on main north road about eight miles from Dunedin.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clutha County.—Glenomaru Survey District.

Section 40, Block IV : Area, 212 acres 2 roods 13 perches; capital value, £110; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £5 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 4s.

Weighted with £25, valuation for improvements consisting of clearing and fencing.

Rough bush section, with fair soil; well watered; easterly aspect; timber mostly kamai. Situated near the coast, about two miles from a school and about seven miles from Glenomaru Railway-station.

Section 99, Block VIII : Area, 25 acres 2 roods 34 perches; capital value, £25; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £1 5s.; half-yearly rent on lease, 10s.

Weighted with £42, valuation for improvements consisting of house, felling, and grassing.

The section comprises steep, broken ridges, with a southerly and south-easterly aspect. The greater part of the original bush has been cleared, but scrub now covers some of the clearing. The soil is a light black loam, on a clay formation; watered by a stream in the main gully. Altitude 30 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Situated about two miles from Owaka Railway-station, post-office, and school.

Section 42, Block X : Area, 214 acres 1 rood; capital value, £110; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £5 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 4s.

Weighted with £167 10s., valuation for improvements consisting of house, felling, and grassing.

The section, which is under heavy bush, comprises steep and rather broken spurs, with generally a southerly aspect. The bush was worked by a sawmill some years ago. The soil is a black loam, on a clay formation; well watered by Glenomaru Creek and branches. Altitude, 200 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level. There is a formed road past the southern frontage. Situated about two miles and a half from Glenomaru Railway-siding.

Clutha County.—Rimu Survey District.

Section 23, Block XIV : Area, 116 acres 3 roods 33 perches; capital value, £60; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £3; half-yearly rent on lease, £1 4s.

Weighted with £20, valuation for improvements consisting of felling and grassing.

The section is covered with heavy bush and fern, the bush consisting of black-pine, red-pine, kamai, miro, &c. The section comprises a number of ridges and steep gullies, with generally a northerly aspect. The soil is a light loam, on a clay formation; well watered. Altitude, from 100 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Situated on the south bank of Maclennan River, about three miles from Caberfeidh Railway-station, half the distance being by formed road and half by bush track.
