Award of Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-service Medal.

Wellington, 10th October, 1917.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the award of a Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-service Medal to Captain William Edwin Cairn, 3rd (Auckland) Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), he having a total service to the 26th August, 1917, entitling him thereto, of twenty-one years three hundred and twelve days.

Passports required to enable Subjects of Allied and Neutral Countries to land in China.

IT is hereby notified for public information that subjects of allied or neutral countries proceeding to China will not be admitted to that country unless they have in their possession passports with 4 in. photographs of the holder attached thereto, signed by Chinese Ministers or Consuls, and stamped with seals of Legations or Consulates. The Consulate fee for visé and attachment of seal is 5s. The Consulate in New Zealand for the Republic of China is Mr. Yue H. Jackson, whose address is “Brittain’s Buildings, 54 Manners Street, Wellington.”

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks I and V, Opaheke Survey District, for Road Purposes.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of roads in Blocks I and V, Opaheke Survey District; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Hunua, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block VII, Makotuku Survey District, for Road Purposes.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for road purposes. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Raetihi, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

Importation of Plants into Tasmania prohibited unless accompanied by a Fumigation Certificate.—Notice No. 1898.

IT is hereby notified for public information that His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania has been pleased to approve that subsection (a) of section 2 of Government Notice No. 322, made under the Vegetation Diseases Act, 1898 (62 Vict. No. 21), be rescinded, and the following substituted therefor:—

“All plants imported into Tasmania must be accompanied by a sworn certificate made by the consignor, and attested by a responsible officer of the Department of Agriculture of the State or country from which they are sent, to the effect that the said trees have been fumigated under his supervision in a properly constructed fumigator for one hour with hydrocyanic-acid gas, generated from 1 oz. of potassium cyanide or sodium cyanide, 1 oz. of fluid of sulphuric acid, and 3 ozs. of fluid of water to each 100 cubic feet of space that the said fumigator contains.

“All plants so imported must be packed in clean straw, and the packing must not contain dead or living leaves of any kind whatever.”
