HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the Territorial Force.

APPOINTMENTS.
Major George Searight Hardy, 8th (South Canterbury) Mounted Rifles, is appointed Area Officer, Blenheim, with the rank and pay of Captain whilst so employed, with effect from 13th September, 1917.

Lieutenant William Hudson Scoon, Unattached List (b), is appointed Assistant Provost-Marshal, Canterbury Military District. Dated 14th August, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant Charles Gray, 11th Regiment (Taranaki Rifles), is appointed Assistant Provost-Marshal, Wellington Military District. Dated 25th August, 1917.

Major (temp. Lieut.-Colonel) Alfred George Talbot, New Zealand Medical Corps, relinquishes his appointment as Assistant Director of Medical Services, Auckland Military District, and the temporary rank of Lieut.-Colonel whilst so employed. Dated 1st October, 1917.

Lieut.-Colonel Philip Oswald Andrew, New Zealand Medical Corps, is appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services, Auckland Military District, vice Major (temp. Lieut.-Colonel) Alfred George Talbot. Dated 1st October, 1917.

Major Roderick McKenzie Gunn, New Zealand Medical Corps, is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board, and granted the pay of Lieut.-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so acting, and is appointed President of the C2 Re-examination Board. Dated 25th September, 1917.

Captain (temp. Major) John Patrick Daunt Leahy, New Zealand Medical Corps, is granted the temporary rank of Lieut.-Colonel whilst holding the appointment of Principal Medical Officer, Trentham Camp. Dated 22nd September, 1917.

Captain George Mackenzie Lester Lester, M.R.C.S. Eng., L.R.C.P. Lond., New Zealand Medical Corps, is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board, and granted the pay of Lieut.-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so acting. Dated 29th September, 1917.

Captain Gerald Warren Russell, M.D., B.S., New Zealand Medical Corps, is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board, and granted the pay of Lieut.-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so acting. Dated 24th September, 1917.

Captain Charles Edward Reid, Corps of New Zealand Engineers (N.Z. Post and Telegraph Corps), is attached for duty with the War Expenses Branch, with the rank and pay of Lieutenant whilst so employed. Dated 1st August, 1917.

Captain Ernest Edward Willoughby, Unattached List (b), is appointed an Attesting Officer under the Military Service Act, 1916. Dated 1st September, 1917.

Lieutenant Edward Harvey Stacpoole Batchelor, 1st (Canterbury) Regiment, Reserve of Officers, is appointed an Attesting Officer under the Military Service Act, 1916. Dated 1st April, 1917.

Honorary Captain William Edmond Reynolds, New Zealand Dental Corps, relinquishes his appointment as Expert Dental Adviser to a Medical Board as from 20th Septem-

ber, 1917, and retains the honorary rank of Captain until further notice.

Honorary Lieutenant Frederick J. Mackintosh, Unattached List (b), relinquishes his appointment as Officer in Charge of Camp Records, Featherston, and the honorary rank of Lieutenant whilst so employed. Dated 25th September, 1917.

PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS.

10 (NELSON) MOUNTED RIFLES.

Major George Raymond Blackett, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 14th August, 1917, and is absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority—viz., Major, as from the 26th May, 1917 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 139, of the 6th September, 1917).

12TH (OTAGO) MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieut.-Colonel Robert Renton Grigor, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 26th October, 1917, and is absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority—viz., Lieut.-Colonel, as from the 30th August, 1916 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 128, of the 16th November, 1916).

NEW ZEALAND GARRISON ARTILLERY.

Auckland G.A. Division.

Lieutenant Henry Gordon Wilding to be Captain, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 25th September, 1917.

Alexander Imrie Farmer to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.). Dated 25th September, 1917.

NEW ZEALAND RIFLE BRIGADE.

Earl of Liverpool’s Own (Territorial).

Lieutenant Kenneth Alan Henderson, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 24th September, 1917, and is absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Lieutenant, as from 1st February, 1916 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 20, of the 24th February, 1916).

2nd Lieutenant Clive Duncan Philip Topliss, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 13th October, 1917, and is absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority therein — viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 1st February, 1916 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 20, of the 24th February, 1916).

NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL CORPS.

Thaddeus Julian, M.D., M.S., to be Captain. Dated 14th September, 1917.

The undermentioned are granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst doing duty with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force:—

Gerald Warren Russell, M.D., B.S., Lond. Dated 2nd September, 1916.

George Walker, M.B., B.S. Dated 27th September, 1917.

George Mackenzie Lester Lester, M.R.C.S. Eng., L.R.C.P. Lond. Dated 29th September, 1917.

Captain Gerald Warren Russell, M.D., B.S., Lond., was posted for duty with the Hospital Ship “Marama,” 2nd Charter. Dated 9th November, 1916.

Captain Maurice Mason Earle, M.R.C.S. Eng., L.R.C.P. Lond., was posted for duty with the Hospital Ship “Marama,” 2nd Charter. Dated 9th November, 1916.

Captain Maurice Mason Earle, M.R.C.S. Eng., L.R.C.P. Lond., N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 18th September, 1917, and is absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., Captain, as from the 15th June, 1916 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 78, of the 20th July, 1916).

2nd Lieutenant (on probation) Archibald Twelftree Joseph, from the Unattached List (b), to be Lieutenant. Dated 11th September, 1917.

NEW ZEALAND CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.

The Reverend William Eugene Gillam, Chaplain to the Forces, 3rd Class, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 16th November, 1917, and is absorbed with his original rank and seniority — viz., Chaplain to the Forces, 2nd Class, as from the 1st June, 1908 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 89, of the 5th November, 1908).

The Reverend Edmund John Tipler to be Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class. Dated 21st September, 1917.
