At the examination of candidates for a surveyor’s license held in October, 1917, under the Surveyors’ Institute and Board of Examiners Act, 1908, and conducted by the Federated Surveyors’ Boards of Australia and New Zealand, six candidates presented themselves in New Zealand.
None of these candidates succeeded in passing the examination.

Notice is hereby given that the iron cone buoy which marked the turning-point of bank below Shelly Beach in south branch of Kaipara River has sunk.

It is hereby notified for public information that the Governor-General in Council, in pursuance of sections 2 and 3 of the Public Trust Office Amendment Act, 1917, has been pleased to appoint—
ROBERT TRIGGS, Esquire,
to be the Public Trustee; and
JOHN WILLIAM MACDONALD, Esquire, a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand; and THOMAS SHERRIFF RONALDSON, Esquire,
to be Assistant Public Trustees.
The said ROBERT TRIGGS, JOHN WILLIAM MACDONALD, and THOMAS SHERRIFF RONALDSON to constitute the Public Trust Office Board provided under section 13 of the said Act. Such appointments to date from 9th October, 1917.

Notice by the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II), and its Amendments.
To the owner of the following land, that is to say: All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, containing by admeasurement 60 acres, more or less, being north-western portion of Allotment 11, Parish of Awhitu.
The land was originally Crown-granted to one WILLIAM McMAHON, of Onehunga, Farmer, who cannot now be traced.
Whereas the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries and has been unable to find the whereabouts of the owner of the above-described land or any agent of such owner in New Zealand:
Now, the Public Trustee hereby calls upon such owner, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his title to the said land; and if he fails or neglects so to do, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II), and its amendments.
