Regulations as to Registers of Reservists under the Military Service Act; 1916, and as to the Selection by Lot of such Reservists for Military Service.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this first day of October, 1917.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section six of the Military Service Act, 1916, it is enacted that after the enrolment of either division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve, or of any class or classes thereof, has been proclaimed and directed the Government Statistician shall prepare a register of such division, class or classes, in such manner as the Governor in Council directs:

And whereas by section nine of the said Act it is enacted that the selection by lot of reservists to be called up for service with the Expeditionary Force shall be made by the Government Statistician in such manner as the Governor in Council directs:

And whereas by a Proclamation made and gazetted on the first day of September, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, the enrolment of the First Division of the Reserve was proclaimed and directed:

And whereas by a Proclamation made with the approval of the Executive Council, and gazetted on the second day of September, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, the enrolment of the Second Division of the Reserve was proclaimed and directed:

And whereas by an Order in Council made on the twenty-sixth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, and gazetted on the second day of November, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, as amended by an Order in Council made on the ninth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, the necessary directions were given as to the preparation of the registers of those divisions:

And whereas by Orders in Council made on the first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, and the ninth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, the necessary directions were given as to the manner of selecting reservists by lot for service with the Expeditionary Force:

And whereas by Order in Council made under section nine of the Military Service Act, 1916, on the fourth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, as amended by an Order in Council of the third day of September, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, the Second Division of the Reserve has been divided into six classes as therein defined:

And whereas by a Proclamation made with the approval of the Executive Council, and gazetted on the seventeenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, the enrolment of all of the said classes of the Second Division has been proclaimed and directed:

And whereas by an order made by the Minister of Defence on the twenty-fifth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, under section thirty-two of the said Act, New Zealand was divided into twenty-one recruiting districts for the purposes of that Act:

And whereas by an order made by the Minister of Defence on the seventeenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, those recruiting districts have been abolished:

And whereas it has therefore become necessary to make further provision with respect to the manner of the preparation of registers of the First and Second Divisions of the Reserve, and with respect to the manner of selecting reservists by lot for service with the Expeditionary Force:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, and in pursuance of the authority conferred upon him by section six and section nine of the Military Service Act, 1916, doth hereby revoke the aforesaid Orders in Council of the twenty-sixth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, the first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, and the ninth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, relative to the registers of the First and Second Divisions of the Reserve, and to the manner of selecting reservists by lot for service in the Expeditionary Force, and doth make in lieu thereof the provisions contained in the Schedule hereto,
