SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

GULF OF ST. VINCENT.—OYSTER BAY SPIT BEACON.

MASTERS of vessels and others are hereby informed that the beacon marking the northern end of the South Spit has been replaced, and the temporary buoy removed.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2152 and 2389.

VICTORIA.

ALTERATIONS TO JETTY LIGHTS AT PORTSEA, ROSEBUD, AND RYE, PORT PHILLIP BAY.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the jetty lights at Rosebud and Rye have been changed to a flashing white light with one short flash every five (5) seconds, and that, on or about 1st September, 1917, the present red light at Portsea Jetty will be changed to a flashing green light with one short flash every five (5) seconds.

CALIFORNIA.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—MARE ISLAND LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL DISCONTINUED.

On 1st July, 1917, Mare Island light and fog-signal were permanently discontinued.

ARGENTINA.

BAHIA BLANCA. — LIGHT-VESSEL WRECKED. — SUBSTITUTE PLACED.

The light-vessel “Bahia Blanca,” wrecked in consequence of a gale 26th May last, approximately 45 miles to the eastward of Recalada light-vessel, has been provisionally replaced by the transport “Piedra Buena,” with the following characteristics:—
Hull with three masts, painted black, exhibiting from the mainmast a fixed white light of 700 candle-power at an elevation of 49 ft.
In a short time the transport will be replaced by another light-vessel with the following characteristics:—
Hull with black and red bands, two masts, inscription “BAHIA BLANCA” on both sides, metallic tower between the masts from which is exhibited an occulting white light every 60 seconds—thus, light 42 seconds, eclipse 18 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 39° 10′ 45″ S., long. 61° 39′ 20″ W.

WESTPORT HARBOUR.—DREDGING.

NOTICE is hereby given that dredging operations are being carried out in the Buller River by the bucket dredger “Erskine.” The dredger is working in the fairway up-river from up-stream end of No. 5 berth of Crane Wharf. She will be hauled out clear when any vessel or vessels are working to or from the wharf in the daytime, and on and after the 17th instant at night-time; in fair weather she will remain at her moorings about 300 ft. off the wharf.
