HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the Permanent Staff and Territorial Force.
APPOINTMENTS.
Captain Charles Victor Leeming, N.Z. Field Artillery, E Battery, is appointed Adjutant to the Canterbury Field Artillery Brigade. Dated 7th August, 1917.
Major George Searight Hardy, 8th (South Canterbury) Mounted Rifles, performed the duties of District Attesting Officer under the Military Service Act from 9th June, 1917, to 30th June, 1917.
Captain Frank Percival Osmond Smith, 1st (Canterbury) Regiment (Reserve of Officers), appointed District Attesting Officer under the Military Service Act on the 30th January, 1917, resigns his appointment. Dated 30th June, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Rupert Cecil Wood, New Zealand Rifle Brigade (Earl of Liverpool’s Own) (Territorial), is appointed an Attesting Officer under the Military Service Act. Dated 9th August, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Joseph Hadfield Westley Sheppard, Unattached List (b), General List, is appointed Base Cashier, War Expenses Branch, Wellington, with the honorary rank of Lieutenant (temp.), and is attached to the New Zealand Army Pay Department whilst so employed. Dated 4th July, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE TRAINING CAMPS.
Honorary Lieutenant Albert Arthur Luckham, Temporary Staff, is granted the honorary rank of Captain whilst employed as Assistant Camp Adjutant, Trentham Camp. Dated 1st August, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Andrew Melville Jameson, Unattached List (b), General List, is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst employed as Assistant Provost Marshal. Dated 1st August, 1917.
PROMOTIONS, RESIGNATIONS, AND TRANSFERS.
NEW ZEALAND PERMANENT STAFF.
2nd Lieutenant Arthur James King, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., Staff Sergeant-major, as from 1st May, 1912; to date from 31st August, 1916.
1ST MOUNTED RIFLES (CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY).
Lieutenant William Deans, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., Captain, as from 3rd July, 1916 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 107, of 21st September, 1916); to date from 31st January, 1917.
4TH (WAIKATO) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major Alfred Tattersall, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, as from the 16th May, 1911 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 97, of the 23rd November, 1911); to date from 13th February, 1916.
CORPS OF NEW ZEALAND ENGINEERS.
New Zealand Post and Telegraph Corps (North Island).
Captain Louis Carmine (South Island Battalion) is attached for duty. Dated 3rd August, 1917.
2ND (SOUTH CANTERBURY) REGIMENT.
Lieutenant Percy Arthur Seymour Stephens is transferred to the Reserve of Officers. Dated 7th August, 1917.
4TH (OTAGO) REGIMENT.
Captain William Fleming, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority—viz., Major, as from the 3rd July, 1916 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 126, of the 9th November, 1916); to date from 2nd July, 1916.
9TH (HAWKE’S BAY) REGIMENT.
Captain William H. Fraser, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 17th September, 1917, and absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority—viz., Honorary Captain and Quartermaster, as from the 14th May, 1901 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 60, of the 20th June, 1901).
NEW ZEALAND ARMY SERVICE CORPS.
Lieutenant William Northey Lace, No. 7 Company, to be Captain, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 4th August, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL CORPS.
Lieutenant-Colonel Philip Oswald Andrew is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board. Dated 8th August, 1917.
Major John Craig, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength as from the 8th February, 1917, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., Captain, as from 20th October, 1915 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 6, of the 27th January, 1916); and retains the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel whilst acting as a member of a Special District Medical Board. Dated 7th June, 1917.
Captain (temp. Major) Edward William Sharman, L.R.C.P. Edin., L.R.C.S. Edin., N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength as from the 30th July, 1916, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., Captain, as from
