Constituting the Borough of Shannon, County of Horowhenua.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS, in accordance with the provisions of section thirteen of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, a petition was presented to the Governor-General praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto be constituted a new borough: And whereas the provisions of the said section thirteen have been complied with in respect thereto, and the result of the poll taken on the proposal contained in the said petition was in favour thereof:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, as amended by the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the area described in the Schedule hereto shall be constituted a borough under the said Acts on and from the first day of August, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen; that the name of such borough shall be the Borough of Shannon; that the said borough shall be an undivided borough; and that the number of Councillors to be elected thereto shall be eight, exclusive of the Mayor.

And I do further proclaim and declare that John Thomas Bovis, of Levin, shall be the Returning Officer to conduct the first election of Mayor and Councillors of the said borough; and that the said John Thomas Bovis shall be the Town Clerk and the person to prepare the district electors roll for the purposes of the said first election.

And, lastly, I do proclaim and declare that the first election of Mayor and Councillors of the said borough shall be held on Wednesday, the twenty-second day of August, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen; and that the first meeting of the Council of the said borough shall be held on Wednesday, the twenty-ninth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, at half past seven o’clock in the afternoon, at the Public Institute, Shannon.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the north-eastern side of Johnston Street distant 2500 links from George Street; thence along a right line bearing 47° 37′, distance 1569·7 links, to a public road, across that road, and along its northern side to the westernmost corner of Section 635; thence along a right line bearing 123° 14′ 35″, distance 12362·7 links, bearing 223°, distance 7161·3 links, bearing 303° 14′ 35″, distance 10995·6 links, bearing 317° 37′, distance 796·8 links, bearing 47° 37′, distance 4882·8 links, to Johnston Street, across that street, and along its northern side, distance 1600 links, to the place of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Member of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-first day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and seventeen.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section three hundred and eighty-eight of the Native Land Act, 1909, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby lay out and take as a road the lands described in the Schedule hereto.
