The excess of the arrivals in New Zealand over the departures therefrom during the month of June, 1917, was therefore 71 persons, as against an excess of departures over arrivals amounting to 289 in the corresponding month of 1916.

It is important to mention that, in the returns from which this table is made up, immigrants to the Dominion are all counted at the first port of arrival, and emigrants at the final port of departure.
