SUMMARY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY.
The weather during May was generally of an unsettled character. Two small anticyclones passed over the Dominion—
viz., between the 2nd and 4th and 18th and 19th, when fine weather resulted.
Of the numerous atmospheric depressions, the two most effective were a cyclone which passed down from the north and off
East Cape between the 12th and 15th, and an extensive westerly area of low pressure which ruled between the 22nd and 28th.
Both were responsible for some heavy rains, the former causing floods in Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa districts, and the latter
culminating in very heavy floods in Otago about the 26th and 27th.
With the exception of a few scattered stations, chiefly in the West Coast districts, most portions of the Dominion
experienced an abundant rainfall.
