The inclusion of the suburban boroughs lowers the death-rate at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.

Including the suburbs, the rate at Dunedin is the highest, and at Christchurch the lowest.

The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 526, against 660 in June—a decrease of 134. The deaths in July were 238—a decrease of 422 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 127, females 111. Thirty-eight of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 15·96 per cent. of the whole number; 30 of these were under one year of age.
There were 93 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against 101 in June. The following table shows the classification:—
