The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination. Preference will be given to soldiers, either discharged or on active service, and to applicants with children dependent on them or who have within the preceding two years applied for land at least twice unsuccessfully.

SCHEDULE.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—ALFORD SURVEY DISTRICT. SECTIONS 19, 20, 21, Block V: Area, 60 acres; capital value, £150; half-yearly rental, £3 15s. under occupation with right of purchase, and £3 if selected under renewable lease.

These sections, which comprise steep hilly ground, are situated adjacent to the junction of the Stour River with the south branch of the Ashburton River, and near to the Mount Somers Coal-pit, the distance from the Mount Somers Township being about eight miles.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Nelson Land District, containing by estimation 1,092 acres, more or less, and situated in Block XIV, Oparara Survey District. Bounded towards the north generally by Section 15 and a road along the left bank of the Karamea River; towards the east generally by a road, a cemetery reserve (Section 61), Section 14, and part of 557 acres of land for disposal described in the New Zealand Gazette of the 2nd October, 1913, page 2943; towards the south by other part of the said 557 acres; and towards the west generally by Sections 2, 3, 4, 83, a map school reserve, a road, Section 23, and again by a road: excepting the road one chain wide which intersects the land included within the above-described boundaries.
